Gap between CS and EastEnders negligible last night.
Considering the circumstances I would think both the producers and the BBC will be very disappointed and worried indeed.
Interested to hear the excuses this time!
Very hot today (practically unbearable here) but XF should still pull 8.5-10m this week I think. It still performs well despite the growing viewer apathy; last years series was the third most successful ever, right? Even with Gary Borelow.
Can see Red or Black tanking though... 5m will be a push.

First Monday of September could well have been better for ratings, but if they put the first episode there on the same week as an ITV1 drama launch, there'd be squeals to the press from ITV.

Ratings Thread pre-X Factor celebratory night out?
I wouldn't be overly surprised if The X Factor struggles to hit 8m tonight even with the lack of opposition. I can see it having a turkey of a lead in without Strictly to support it in a crossover.

Doesn't whatever is leading into X Factor always benefit from it? The X Factor is the big one, I doubt R or B will have an impact on it.

The X Factor was in a much better state this time last year than it is this year, though. There's nothing on to pull people in for the early evening which may hurt it. Family Fortunes somehow managed to pull in 5m+ last year which would have aided The X Factor...I don't think Red or Black? will match this number.

Seriously though...that was slightly embarrassing.
I apologise for my post last night - as you can tell I'd had a couple too many and therefore didn't make much sense (and would have made even less if it wasn't for autocorrect on my phone)! Apologies again...
Was that seriously a game to guess how many times an explosion was mentioned in a song? Rofl. Saturday night entertainment at its finest.
As for tonight, the weather has been great all day so I'm not expecting much. Probably something in the 8s for XF (maybe 9m with +1). I do think with XF this year that it's less about where it starts and more about where it ends up - if they can grow and match/beat the later stages of last year they should be happy enough. I can see Red or Black flopping badly for the first show (3m?) with something a little better for the second (4m?). People just don't care though.
I think The X Factor could struggle to top 9 million, it's been a blisteringly hot day in the South east, people are having parties and sitting in the garden with a drink, so unless it pulls in bigger than usual numbers on +1, I doubt it will top last years show.

I think this thread will go into spasms of delight if ITV gets crushed tonight - especially as the main opposition is an ancient film, a quiz show and a never ending soap!
The biggest issue ITV has is how will they cope if The X Factor does collapse? What do they have coming through which provides the revenue The X Factor has over the past few years?
Of course, even if it does struggle tonight it doesn't mean it's all over - it could well build again. But last year proved the show is fallible and ITV are too reliant on it.
I think Red or Black's reboot makes it feel like a poor version of The Cube (if you can imagine such a horror). The ratings will be very low for the first show.
X Factor will be down due to the weather, most significantly. But as Robbie Sykes always says 'overnights are irrelevant'. TVUK and BGT got great openings back in March and it was a heatwave (weirdly). But by 7pm back then it was feeling more springlike.....not tonight it isn't.
The year TXF auditions went massive (2007), the August weather was especially terrible, with parts of Britain recently flooded. So the weather DOES play a part.
