You mean you didn't enjoy the commentary from Trevor Nelson? We can't have Fearne Cotton for everything, you know.

In terms of the yearly top 5, this is obviously an exceptional year. But we may well see more of that in the future. X Factor and the like were probably the last actual TV shows to make it to the top of the TV ratings. That we still had shows getting 19m peaks in 2010 was quite a turn up for the books itself. But we may head the way of the US where the ratings chart is dominated by broadcasts of big events rather than TV shows - things like sport and (at least in the US) awards ceremonies which can transfer between networks.

I was under the impression that it wasn't actually a 7/7 tribute but something to do with loved ones of spectators (someone in the main thread said you could submit a picture and it would be put up somewhere?). Probably would have been best to still include it (although Abide With Me really is dire).”

I think they're on about the bit where they showed footage from the attacks rather than the photo montage.

Typical Daily Mail: it was a young adult female, not a little girl.

Personally I don't see why aggregated shows can't be counted as it was the standard way of doing things for BARB in that era. When the Corrie omnibus was introduced in 1989 they used to combine their ratings too but BARB's list of top programmes oddly doesn't reflect this yet it does for EE and Neighbours.”

I think the omnibus did clear 10m. 19pointsomething million people watched the first screening. I have some BARB figures from early 1989, and the omnibus was sometimes hitting 8m for the second of a week's two episodes.

I don't know why BARB miss out the fact they've included the Coronation St repeats.

I think it would be far more relevant to mention that Eastenders itself can struggle to top 7 million these days. Oh the irony

None of the soaps will ever get the ratings they had in the eighties as there are so many more programmes to choose from and viewers don't see them as must see television now. However, without CS and Emmerdale, ITV1 would probably collapse totally in the summer.

From Scott Branch: After further analysis by our audiences team, the average audience for last night's ceremony was in fact 23m not 22.4m

TBH I wonder where the whole ITVs non Syco TV schedule would be without Corrie and Emmerdale to prop it up.

Well they do have IAC, DOI and DA to deliver the goods as well, but they do seem overdependent on a few shows and none of their new entertainment and reality formats in the last few years have done well. Gone are the days when ITV had a huge range of hit dramas, popular factual shows, decent and well loved entertainment and respected regional shows. Mind you they were always weak at situation comedy, sport and coverage of national events.

The US actualy viewing figure will be higher - I think 23 refers to the share of 18-49 years olds who live in the US watching, I am sure someone more knowledgeable will correct me if wrong.

I think Dancing on Ice is about done TBH, whilst DA and IAC can not hold up a schedule by themselves all year.

Unless this year is a surefire success, it will almost definitely be DOI's last. IAC is not what it used to be and depends entirely on its lineup, and DA is not going to last forever - I can see Fellowes wrapping it up in a few years.

In other words, I think it's entirely possible that in 3 years, none of those three shows will be around, and I think it's a certainty in 5 years.

It's also very possible that The X Factor could be gone in a few years. If there's another downward slide this year and the US version takes off I think Cowell might start to really consider calling it a day.

DOI lost 20 pc of its audience last year and it shows that given the choice between a well made period drama and a trashy zeleb show, viewers will choose the drama. IAC seems to be an odd one, it was declining for few years, but seems to have picked up again. However, the format is old and stripped reality is rather passe now and a dud set of celebs could kill it off as the pool of B list celebs must be drying up now. Yet we could be wrong.

Generally if you take away the biggest hits on any channel then it's going to cause a problem. I'm not really sure what the point is or why it is repeated so frequently.

If you look at the "new drama" ratings for the past few years then ITV tend to do just as well (and sometimes better) than BBC1.

It's a household rating so it means 23% of US homes with a television were tuned in. The 18-49 and audience numbers will be out later.

The audience will be over 30m.

Apparently the rope for Cruella De Vil snapped during the Mary Poppins defeats the demons sequence.

There is a pic.

Just as well the Voldermort one held up.

Shame must be a disappointment when something like that happens after so much planning.
