Hi. I've followed this thread for a good few years and never felt the need to comment before but your lack of knowledge regarding the sport has compelled me to do so. As you've admitted to having limited knowledge of cycling, are you honestly in a position of being able to tell a team that only a week earlier produced the first British champion of Tour De France?

Sometimes the tactics will not work out, that's the nature of the sport. But the way in which the sport works means that it'll not always go that way. They give Cavendish the best possible chance and more times than not it will work. There is no need for a huge inquest in to the matter and it doesn't mean that in the space of a week that British cycling is in the dumps.

Regarding your comments about the lack of gold medals. We're on day 3 of the Olympics for crying out loud! There's a possibility of having a rowing team in every final, Ben Ainslie (again another sport you seemingly have a lack of knowledge) is in a very good position, and Rebecca Adlington looking very good going into her premier event.

I'm not saying to not have an opinion but try to have a more educate yourself about the sports before hand.

Presumably we are now into the August holiday deadzone where the usual early morning ratings sources cannot be relied on?

As for the cycling, I wasn't going to prolong the off topic debate, but the previous post says it all. Though I'm sure Dave Brailsford will be all ears if wizzywick wants to berate him for his failed tactics....

I think ratings are delayed actually. Presumably BARB doing more checks than usual with 24 Olympic channels.

This is an absolutely amazing figure for a red button channel. Basically 1 out of every 50 people in the United Kingdom were watching BBC Olympic 3 live at the same time via the red button on Sky, Freesat and Cable. We really are in the digital age now

What was on Olympic 3, the road race?

John Williams claims a peak of >10m last night.

Edit: 10.1m on BBC1, 8.20pm for Becky

28% share for BBC1, 4 times any other channel

Over 10m peak last night for Adlington according to Roger Mosey.

#BBC1's #Olympic coverage peaked with 10.1m viewers at 8.20pm. Its all day share (28%) was over 4x that of any other channel.

The switchover is almost complete so almost everyone can pick and choose their sports.

The 24 extra channels are not red button on Sky or Virgin. They're regular EPG channels.

Figures would be massively lower if they were 'red button'.

I imagine the Team GB football did well on BBC3/HD at the same time as Adlington. Could it have been in second place?

Edit: Yup, confirmed by Sam Hodges. Second place with 3.6m peak!

They are available in the EPG and behind the Red Button.

6.8m peak for women's cycling in the afternoon - plus whatever the live stream got. (Jake Kanter)

588k for Becky on BBCO6 (10.7m total peak) (Hodges)

True, but it's very slow and clunky on red button. I would think most are accessing them through the EPG, instantly, without all the loading time.

Slam dunk, actually this figure is impressive for the sport.

2.2m for the Fifty Shades of Grey doc on C4, a rare case of good, quick scheduling from the channel.

I agree, sports like swimming, basketball, cycling, doing well makes me feel good. 10.1 million for Becky is excellent.

An extra 800k according to Roger Mosey - 7.6m in total.

Great figures for the Olympics, but isn't the BBC displaying a lack of class by saying things like "we got more than four times the viewers than any other channel"?

It's the Olympic Games. They're being held in Britain for the first time in 64 years. The BBC has the exclusive rights. As far as the battle for ratings with its rivals is concerned, this is not a level playing field. Rather than crowing, the BBC should acknowledge that fact.
