Some posters here seem to think that Golds are what matter - If team GB gets more than 25 Golds I would be surprised. What matters regarding ratings is Brits in finals, average weather outside, little opposition (thanks ITV1

Despite me coming across as somewhat negative regarding Team GB's performance, I am actually very supportive of them. The ratings for the Olympics thus far are unbelievable because they are consistent. For most people who are watching the Olympics who are not necessarily Sports Fans, then yes, like me they are buying into the rather pressurised media hype.
I would rather the broadcasters stop harping on about medals and who should win what. Most people are not idiots. If the commentator says that a Brit is in the final of an event, it isn't rocket science to realise that if they finish in the top 3 they will win a medal. I don't want to be told that a person is expected to win a medal and then they don't.
I am very proud to be British and to see so many team GB members in so many events is actually quite humbling. For them to then get really great ratings is wonderful.
I do however, want the stupid, soul destroying UK media to stop focusing on the negatives of the games. Keep going on about empty seats, lost keys, security is just making us look incompetent to our overseas visitors. Organising the Olympics isn't like running a pub quiz. It's a huge, huge project. The biggest project the UK has undertaken in my lifetime. Blips are going to happen here as much as in every country that holds the Olympics. But why can't we ignore the blips, and concentrate on the fact that the facilities are possibly the best ever created for the Olympic Games. The Opening Ceremony was well received internationally, the Cauldron is outstanding, the athletes are happy and this has the potential to be among the best games ever staged. And, people are watching on TV in their millions. Let's concentrate on that and not the tiny, niggly things. It is annoying.
