Unfortunately some things never change on that score!

Massive peak tonight, definitely.

Astonishing night for Team GB must be huge ratings.

Seems though that Team GB is as bad at penalties as England.

I think so also.
Its been utterly amazing.
I think Bigbrother could be looking at another record low
given its a saturday and the quality of the events and GB's winnings

Anyone watching Big Brother tonight must be a dedicated fan of the show.

Brilliant day for the BBC - absolutely exceptional tonight and hopefully BBC1 get the ratings - their only competition will be from BBC3's coverage of the football which has performed brilliantly all week. Be interesting to see the red button figure for the Long Jump too.

huge ratings for tonight and the feel good factor will mean massive ratings for two of the biggest sporting events of the year tomorrow on bbc1, murray vs federer and mens 100m final

To be fair they managed to knock the first four in; I can't remember the last time England did that.

Agreed. The way it built up with one gold after another ensured a social-media buzz and hopefully this will have helped earn a massive peak. It would be well-deserved for an unforgettable night of excitement and patriotic pride.

Super Saturday... super ratings! No doubt there will be a spike for BBC One between 9-10pm.

What an amazing day for Team GB.

Did anyone else's screen black out momentarily during the headlines for the news bulletin which followed?

Amazing evening of TV. I think the BBC1/BBC3 combined peak viewing audience will be somewhere in the mid to high teens of millions tonight.

Yes, mine did (I'm on Freeview HD). I thought the telly was on the blink for a second.

Ha ha ha! What a time to black out... even if it was for five seconds!

I can't believe I'm saying this because I normally hate sport and initially hated the thought of it dominating BBC One's schedules but I am absolutely gripped by these Olympics. I am biased because I am a great supporter of the Beeb but their coverage has, so far, been excellent. Loving some of the commentators... and just a little sad when Gary Linekar thanked Ian Thorpe one last time this evening for his services over the last week (I wanted to hear him say "Look..." one last time!!).

Hope the BBC get a Bafta for these Olympics next year, though knowing how itv is so loved these days, it'll probably go to their Tour de France or French Open coverage.

BBC3 is the wildcard in predicting tonight's ratings - will both BBC1 and BBC3 hold up or will one be hurt by the other?

I think though even the most ardent football fan would have had an eye on what was happening over on BBC1 and flicked over at key moments, so between them I reckon close to 20m. Tonight's athletics though was perfectly timed for the BBC - sets them up nicely for the week and hopefully spurs the athletics team on to further success too.

They probably will. But they are only supplying the presentation aspect

Really looking forward to the overnight figures, Ennis, Farah and Co might just pip Usain Bolt tomorrow night.

Does anyone have the ratings for the following, please?

Jimmy Carr: Being Funny - Mon 30th Jul 22.00 Channel 4 (excluding +1)
Olympics 2012 - Fri 3rd Aug 19.00 BBC One (I can see 6.55-10pm has been reported; any chance on 7-10pm for the predictions game? )
Soham: A Parents' Tale - Fri 3rd Aug 21.00 ITV1 (excluding +1)

Many thanks.

I have a feeling they will, too. Is there any British interest in the 100m?

We have a promising junior World Champion (though previous promising junior world champs have done nothing at senior level) and a drugs cheat, but I doubt either will make the final. The Mens 100m though is the one event above all over at the games where people watch the event for the event and any domestic interest is just a bonus.

Ratings wise earlier in the day will also be interesting to see the rowing figures for 11.30am-1pm and the tennis final on BBC1 and Murray/Robson game on BBC3.

Also how has Olympic Breakfast done in comparison to the regular version - and might Daybreak have actually benefitted from those wanting to get away from the Olympics.

I was on BBC1 all day. So much drama at the rowing, then the tennis, then the Velodrome and as if that couldn't be topped an incredible hour of TV in the stadium. This evening was just magical.

If people weren't watching that then they missed something really special.

Really? I'm counting down the days to X Factor / Downton Crappy hysteria / ratings surges. I think I may go into hibernation.

Big Bore is dead, even The Daily Star is giving up now. Why not put this show out of its misery?
