14.7 million watched Jessica Ennis win last night, excellent, as I thought the football would have held it back to 12 million. This year has been fantastic for ratings, although this has been helped by the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics.
And Wimbledon and Andy Murray getting into the final!

I am amused by the stubborn 2m that will watch Midsommer come what may.
Or the million who would be watching BB. There are diehard fans of these shows who would watch them even if the BBC was shwoing the start of World War 3.

Christ on a bike.

That is simply a magnificent figure, and so well deserved for what was truly one of the most phenomenally brilliantly orchestrated and broadcasted spectacles I have ever had the honour of witnessing.

Just spotted that the EPG's and the Radio Times website has split tonight's broadcast, so 18:50 to 21:45 and then 21:45 to 22:15.

More huge ratings last night, I think last night has the edge over tonight. Firstly, the British involvement - I think when a Brit wins, people are more likely to stick around to enjoy the victory (the laps, the medals, over excited commentators!). But also because so much happened to keep bringing in more viewers and then keeping them there. So people might have caught the end of Jessica Ennis winning but stuck around for Mo Farrah and so on. I guess it all depends what else might be happening tonight around the 100m.

Do we ever get official peaks? It would be great to see it go higher than 27m.

Not sure, I think BBC One only. The breakdown trickytree1979 posted here a few days ago though suggested a big timeshift would happen, and that's exactly what has happened.

I think BARB will probably do a press release at the end of the games with a lot of stats/facts.

It's incredible (and slightly depressing) to think that next summer, they could show some of these "minority sports" in Saturday primetime and they'd probably do no better than what ITV usually show in the summer! Yet just now, Jessica Ennis, Victoria Pendleton, Mo Farrah, Chris Hoy, Katherine Grainger and others are the most famous people in the country. The IOC may well be corrupt as an African dictator but they definitely do something right!

And to go back to the discussion of a few days ago, I absolutely think that the brilliant performances from GB are fuelling the ratings. And of course, cycling and athletics will be seeing a lot of lottery funding heading their way.

Yes the BBC have well and truly made amends for their dreadful coverage of the Royal Pageant.
I suspect part of the lesson will be that a proper team needs to be put behind those sorts of events. BBC Sport is probably their most high performing department, they would have had a lot of input, control and management of the Olympics; not too much of a surprise that its been ran so well.

Meanwhile the Royal Pageant...was obviously just a brain storming in a room and lack of knowledge or real concern for the viewer meant that everyone put forward ideas and there was no 'leader' or 'vision'.

The lesson is pretty much to be confident in the event your showing and give the lead to someone who knows what their doing (mind you the BBC Royal Correspondent team is pretty dreadful).

How do you work this out? because the two 1986 Christmas episodes of EastEnders got 28 million and 30 million respectfully. The reason it rated so highly was because they had spent 18 months building up to Den & Angie's divorce and the ''Six months to live'' storyline had gripped the entire nation. There was no omnibus figures added to those two episodes.

Yes there was. The 30m is a 20m + 10m.

Also: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/news/...1-million.html

Second day in a row it seems like DS's ratings information has been done with information directly from this thread?

Wrong. The first episode got 28 million and the second rated above 30 million.

Those are official figures. Go read EastEnders: The Inside Story.

I have it on my Sky box with a keep lock, in HD. I don't care if it takes up 8% of my memory, because it's a historical event and so beautiful!
