at Pizza's post. Great stuff, and so true!I e-mailled Paul Millar about the ratings articles, this was his response Quote:
It's the Olympics and all the rules have kind of gone out the window for the moment.
Our main base of readers are looking for the peaks. I've been grabbing peaks from Sam Hodges and the BBC media centre, and directly from BBC sources. However, the BARB list I noticed in the forum. Thanks for getting in touch - the traditional ratings roundup style will return soon. |

Bravo indeed.
![]() Do re-post it in a fortnight when George leaves his tin hat in the Ratings Thread store cupboard and returns to gloat about Cowell getting 10m and ITV blitzing the opposition. (Figures that would have Sam Hodges and Roger Mosey hooting with derision on recent form) |

Talking of ITV and hoots of derision, I just flicked to ITV1 to see whether it was Marple or Frost tonight, and was delighted to see them making an effort with some highbrow factual programming.

Well, D.M.N. certainly did that for the Royal Wedding last year. Then again, he goes by "broadcasts" and as the Opening Ceremony coverage started at 7pm and ran unbroken until 12.40am, I assume he is going to have to get his calculator out (like he has done for the Euro 2012 figures)- and produce a figure presumably sub-20m.
![]() I personally don't think BBC News simulcasts should be included, because whilst I think it's right to include HD simulcasts where people are almost certainly chosing to break from the networked SD transmission for the HD broadcast (and this is official BARB methodology as regards BBC1 and I believe Ch4), why would any BBC1 viewers think "we'll migrate to the BBC News channel for this then". It's clearly folk who are watching BBC News, which just happens to be showing the same thing, and they should be counted as such. However, adding BBC1/BBC1HD and BBCHD (for 3d), then the official Opening Ceremony figure seems to be 24.359m. That is 24.36m to 2 decimal places, which noses ahead of the OFAH special (24.35m) at the top of the single-channel list. I think? ![]() Edit: Pizza wins the internet! Brilliant Sir!

Hey Robbie, the 3D broadcast on BBCHD wasn't actually a simulcast. Different live feed, cameras, director etc.

Yeh I heard that there were only 4 cameras available in the stadium for 3D. Is that right? Wouldn't surprise me.

So there's roughly 110k separating the Opening Ceremony from OFAH if you compare the official ratings.

![]() ![]() But kind of sad because it's horribly accurate. If that's the state the leading commercial broadcaster with 50+ years of history is in now what will it be like in another decade as the digital takeover takes hold? The license fee is increasing in importance as time goes on. Quote:
Never understood why it matters what channel these things are on, just as long as you know what channel it is, I didnt find it difficult to turn the tv over.

I don't get the BBC - why don't they move the main news to BBC Two? Jason Kenny could be getting a gold medal here and they've switched over?
They're happy enough to throw shows about the schedule at other times so why not now? |

I notice that the new series of Waterloo Road (starting later this month) is scheduled for Thursdays. BBC perhaps feeling braver about scheduling on this night now that Corrie is moving back to Wednesdays. It'll be WR against Emmerdale with WR inheriting an audience from Eastenders (although that's not very much these days.

They are probably trying to make sure Waterloo Road has a good lead in as remember this is the new Scottish series and they've commissioned about 300 episodes or something so there is a lot riding on it being a success.
As others have said all that boring SCD v TXF debate will look quite stale come the Autumn, never mind that seeing BBC1 airing a normal schedule next Monday will look boring. |

The C5 announcer said The Walking Dead will be back next year. Result for fans with Freeview!
Maybe it will come back as a 5*/5USA exclusive. Otherwise they could try moving it back to Sunday nights or giving it a lead-in from another US drama like NCIS. |

Thanks for all the comments. Not sure what came over me...Quote:
Well in Cumbria we had to endure near enough of 20 years of Take The High Road in peak time. No one under 60 would go near it as it was so unwatchable and we all watched TOTP and EE to escape. Even STV's research had to axe it when they realised only a few old Scottish women kept it alive.
