That's right, the BBC's coverage of the Paralympics was probably more than most other broadcasters in the world, NBC notoriously hardly bother with them, usually showing a half-arsed highlights show days later. Because of that there's far less coverage actually available, I don't think everything is filmed, so the Beeb showed more or less all that they were able to show. And the fact is that aren't the same as the Olympics, for many reasons, and would never get anywhere near the same level of coverage.

But given it came after a two-hour show about the Opening Ceremony, we can be sure that everyone watching the Opening Ceremony on BBC1 did so because they wanted to. It would be impossible to watch BBC1 all day because the line-up is so eclectic it's impossible to like everything they broadcast. Whereas it is possible to have BBC News on all day just for the sake of it.
Not that I'd count the BBC News viewers anyway because I don't know who would specifically tune in to that channel to watch the Opening Ceremony.
