According to the Guardian, ITV are trying to lure Bradley Wiggins onto I'm A Celeb. As silly season stories go, that one's a corker. Hope he tells them, publicly, where to stick it.

They do say though that Celeb, Strictly and DOA (sorry, DOI... ) are battling to get some Team GB stars signed up. Wouldn't surprise me - the now retired Vicky P for Strictly, please....”

Becky Adlington said she'd consider Strictly as well. They should just make it a Team GB Olympians special. There will still be loads of hype around them in October and a lot of them will be looking for something to keep them in the public eye as long as possible and get more endorsements, particularly those who have retired. I'm A Celeb is a tough sell to them but Strictly would be a walk in the park. It's not as if the show will miss the regular procession of soap actors or morning show hosts.

Either way, I'm sure there are commissioners, development teams, sporting bodies and agents working on ways to try and use the star personalities for future TV projects and events.

A Strictly Olympians special sounds naff, like the big summer flop DOI Goes Gold.

Far more kudos in having a couple of big name stars competing across the series. Adlington and Pendleton would be major coups.

Some of the Yorkshire contingent could do DOI or Celeb, more in keeping with their demographic....

Someone is staring at a computer screen right now open-mouthed thinking 'It can't be... that many people watching a taekwando match?'

Monday's still free, Accused is on Tuesdays, Good Cop is Thursdays and Gently is Sundays, all three are 4 parters so will be done and dusted by mid to late September leaving room for the other new dramas.

We're talking Bruce Forsyth, sequins, excessive fake tan, too short dresses and desperate soap stars trying to find their next job following in the footsteps of an MP being dragged across the floor and a journalist being forced off the show because he was so bad he might win. And you're worried too many Olympians might make it a bit "naff".

This kind of stunt sounds perfect for Saturday night TV! I think time would be an issue, though (not long till it starts now, is it?). And getting the numbers too. Some of the big names just won't want to do it - especially when the endorsement money will be rolling in anyway. Others will have scheduling issues.

While SCD attracts plenty of retired sportspeople, I doubt many would consider IAC as it is naff and a rest home for faded Z listers.

Usually the kind of viewers who would have lapped up BB at its peak, but now prefer scripted reality like TOWIE and Geordie Shore. Generally these shows score best among twentysomething women who buy celeb mags.

SCD is in a league of its own in terms of the folks it attracts to be take part. All the rest of the shows are now pulling in a merry go round of low levels celebs / even Z-listers.

BB was guilty viewing for some but now it is increasingly turning ot embarassment. It is attracting more of the TOWIE audience - low aspiration is perhaps I would put it!!! It is still giving them this 'just like me' fame which is what the celeb mags (well downmarket) now concentrate on.

SCD is seen as a classier type of show than something like CBB, where they now seem to have a merry go round of reality show contestants and zelebs who weren't that famous 20 years ago. In ratings terms SCD proves its point by attracting 11 million viewers to 2-3 million for CBB. Also production values for SCD are very high.

The main issue is that IAC involves 3 weeks living in the jungle, eating donkey di*k and playing with crocodiles. It's a nightmare compared to learning to dance.

DOI has always had issues because skating is hard enough let alone dancing on the ice. Not to mention the significantly increased chance of injury.

CBB obviously goes back to the original premise - 12 people living together. The show will always be focussed on the people and their personalities so there's a far greater chance of coming out hated (or loved, but it's a big risk).

Who don't aspire to watching what you regard as better TV...

I'm also interested in what exactly was better? An eleventh hour of Olympic coverage - when most of it had concluded anyway?

We can take Ogogo out of that sadly now - only a bronze for him.

No evidence of this in the figures, which is what this thread is about. Indeed, TOWIE's numbers were not affected at all by clashing with Big Brother on Wednesday, which shows that they attract different audiences on the whole.

Low aspiration viewers rarely venture away from ITV2 in my experience.

Channel 5 will be showing the terrestrial premiere of Disney's Beauty and The Beast on Sunday 26th August. It only took 21 years.

anything with actors, a script, anything not set in the current time frame, anything that isnt the worship of the lowest former of celebrity even witnessed in time and space.

I think that'll do very well, I saw the 3D rerelease in the cinema and it has held up very well. Wonder if The Little Mermaid and The Lion King will get their terrestrial premieres soon, probably not Mermaid as that's getting a rerelease next year.

The Disney deal has been good for Channel 5 especially for the Disney and Pixar films, wonder how Pirates of the Carribean would rate if they got the second run rights to it as it rates really well in repeats. Do wish they would show some new to terrestrial premieres, unless they're saving them for the Autumn and Winter.

I think the remaining celebreality shows- IACGMOOH, DOI, CBB- are struggling to find contestants now. Top flight entertainers, actors and sports stars either don't have the time or consider these shows beneath them, so it's left to whatever hard up ex soap star, BB contestant or almost forgotten singer, to keep up the numbers on these shows. As a genre, I think once these three finish, that will be it as shows like Hell's Kitchen and 71 Degrees North have gone and won't be coming back.

Or someone whose only claim to fame is to have appeared in other reality TV programmes.

Agreed. It's great that some major titles previously unshown on FTA TV are coming through at long last thanks to this deal between Disney and Channel 5. Hopefully my personal favourite The Lion King will follow, it shouldn't be far off anyway as the 3D rerelease was a while back now.

I like the fact some of the older titles get a look in rather than just the 90s favourites, would like to see Cinderella and Snow White but I imagine Disney would rather keep them for Blu-Ray releases,

Yes like Amy Childs, who was even given her own reality show that bombed as it was utter carp.
As for Dancc's comments about ITV2, I agree with him. However, there is a certain market, female and young and readers of celeb mags and purchasers of Clubland CDs, who are natural ITV2 viewers and for all it's an abysmal station IMHO it gives about a million people what they want and makes money.
