Problem with Underbelly is it's hard UK 18 cert level material, you'd likely have to cut it heavily to show it at 9pm, as STV did. It's not that commercial in that sense, series 1 is a nasty Australian version of Goodfellas/Scarface.

Strictly Come Dancing's main show and results shows are ALWAYS listed as Strictly Come Dancing. That means the week of the final the highest rated show makes BARB's top 10 most watched of the year. As The X Factor lists its main show and results show separately it ALWAYS gets two entries in the BARB top 10 of the year. Yes the BBC like big numbers but they also like to mention when they get big numbers. Like The Olympics being the highest rated programme of the year. And what BARB's official top tens show is one less edition of Strictly compared to BGT & TXF.

Network Ten is the NBC of Oz.

Can anyone point to a reason why they are doing so badly? I thought it was due to a poor home grown drama slate but it appears they have none other than Neighbours.

Nine had a good night but the OG ceremony was less than they expected i bet.

For Nine's OG ceremony, it was basically a delayed coverage from 6am closing ceremony.

Ten has Offspring for scripted, which started off ok this season, but the numbers grew and the finale did well. Offspring was recently given a two-season renewal (season 4 and 5). They are hoping Puberty Blues and Reef Doctors will find similar success, when they debut. Up until last year, they had Rush, a cop drama. Neighbours moved to Eleven, due to its continuous shitty ratings and the storylines are almost solely focussed on teenagers now. Ten can cope fine without Neighbours, since they are doing fine in Eleven. If they returned to Ten, they would be slaughtered by Nine's reality shows or The Big Bang Theory repeats . Home and Away's ratings are also long gone from their 2000s glory days.

Other than that, stupid programmers who green lights every reality show imaginable. I mean, Don't Tell The Bride, The Shire - REALLY?!?!?!? Their mistreatment of scripted shows (both local and imports) by confusing scheduling and frequent moving of time slots. Nine does this much worse.

The Shire was awful, i caught a glimpse and that was enough, ABC has a strong drama slate,Crownies,Ms Fisher Mysteries and the recent drama with Brian Cox 'The Straits' but they never get the ratings they deserve.

The Closing Ceremony was live at 6am, then repeated in primetime at 9.30pm, not delayed. It most likely got around 500,000 on first showing as that is what the morning coverage of the olympics usually got.

ABC dramas are worthy drama very rarely mainstream hence the lower ratings. Its not like the BBC where it is the main network, it is the 4th network in Australia, and usually gets its best ratings on a Saturday with UK drama as the commercial networks give up.

And Ten really has no poor of a drama slate than Seven or Nine. Offspring did well earlier this year, Puberty Blues should do well as well. Up until underbelly Channe Nine had only shown a one off in Beaconsfield this year and then Drama Tricky business which was awful, so its not just Ten tht has problems

Tricky Business was an awful drama, but I also blame Nine's marketing team for promoting it in a crap way. All of the trailer leading to the premiere highlighted everything EXCEPT what the show's main premise was ie. debt collecting (and how each episode virtually plays out like a procedural). Nine just really focussed on side stories such as love triangles, family issues and such. Really, all of the promotions for this show made it out to look like a rip-off version of Packed to the Rafters.

Nine must have no confidence in all their dramas except the Underbelly series, and immediately resort to a lead-in tactic. What Nine did wrong there is that Tricky Business was always "after The Voice" without specifying what time it actually started. The first episode started at 9:56pm, and subsequent episodes around 9:40pm or 9:45pm or depending on how many ad spots Nine decides to chuck in for The Voice. If it started at 9:30pm, on time, maybe it might have a potential to get a decent ratings. When they moved it to 8pm after The Block, it was really too late for them. I don't think they even advertised the last few episodes. Nine really f&&ked Tricky Business over. It makes me worry on how House Husbands will pan out in the ratings. With The Block having two seasons next year, Nine might as well become a "reality" show network.

House Husbands is down for Sunday Nights, can't see any reason why they would sche0dule it anywhere other than 8.30pm, tricky business shouldn't have started at .30 even with the large lead-in, then again it really wasn't good enough to be placed anywhere else.

Also the Live Closing Ceremony between 6am and 9am got a million viewers exactly. That is astonishing for that time in the morning!

ITV launched their Autumn drama promotion last night, and will use The X Factor's launch on Saturday to preview all their new dramas for the Autumn.

Good to see them promoting their dramas properly and bringing them together in a strand. XF is the best on air promotional platform they've got so I'm glad they're using it well.

Some promising sounding shows in there too. Hopefully they'll be scheduled well. That's not the first time I've noticed a mention of Mr Selfridge launching in the Autumn. I know it won't be ready to fully air in the Autumn but I wonder if they're planning to start it in December, using the XF final as a launch pad? Could give it a good leg-up. I notice there's no mention of DCI Banks - I presume that's been pushed to early next year?

Channel Seven in Australia are actually co-producing the Mr Selfridge drama. Clearly they are expecting it to do as well as Downton, very rare for a UK drama to air anywhere other than the ABC, let alone be co-produced. Then again I think they co-produced Titanic so perhaps that isn't a good omen...

They obviously have high expectations, yeah. I think everyone is just hoping its the next Downton not the next Titanic! Everything I've heard so far has been positive, the cast is strong and Andrew Davies is writing it so hopefully it'll be good.

Coronation Street pulled in the highest soap audience last night with 8.1m at 7.30. New drama Thirteen Steps Down attracted 4.3m (all inc+1)

Good for Corrie, but it looks like EE knocked a million or so off Thirteen Steps Down. Doesn't look like EE's big week started massively well.

EDIT: EE peaked with 8.3m/35% according to Sam Hodges.

Normal telly resumed last night, but it was a familiar tale. The BBC hammered ITV1 with EastEnders and a Mrs Brown’s Boys repeat at 9pm.

Elsewhere, controversial doc The Riots in their Own Words could only manage 943k, while the #BBUK final peaked with 1.76m.

Big Brother Final: 1.5m/6.6% excluding +1.

Kind of low, and well down on last year, but it recovered a lot from Sunday's all time low against the Closing Ceremony, and did beat the return of Celebrity MasterChef on BBC Two (1.4m/7.3%).

Wasn't a great episode. I couldn't really buy into Sharon's return but the scenes from Shirley, Ian and Jean were great. But pretty patchy on the whole. Maybe Tuesday will be higher, but I'm not sure. Not good for their so-called big week.

Eh, Celebrity Masterchef was on at 18:30, Big Brother was on at 21:00. What an incredibly odd comparison.

Both reality shows. BB was the top performer in the genre yesterday (in terms of audience size).

It launched with over 3 million... So no! I really didn't expect it to be that bad! Good for EE though and I predict their ratings will stay high as the who killed Heather storyline draws to a close.

Loosiest comparison ever

Against EastEnders and Mrs Brown's Boys after hitting a series low the night before, I guess so.

Everything seems low for last night with ITV's big new drama only mustering 4m and EE some way below the 9m I had expected. Maybe some viewers are having a break from TV due to watching a little too much of it over the past fortnight?

One was the final - one was Episode 1. One was primetime, one was teatime. One was a channel's big summer blockbuster, one was made on a daytime budget.

Terrible for Big Brother - I used to be a massive fan for years, I appeared on BBLB, but now, please, go away!

Jumping the gun when we don't know the numbers for either soap yet. EE is only the peak, Coro includes a repeat. Sounds like they were both high 7s.

More notably, BBC1 won in peak - on a Monday, with x3 ITV soaps, a new drama premiere and BBC1 having Panorama back. Seems like the big new drama was beaten by the second showing in 6 months of Mrs Brown's Boys!
