I'm not sure the news will be a problem, assuming they credit squeeze/CA about it. (Neither credit squeezing nor CAing annoys me, that's what IMDB is for).

And, having already seen the pilot, it won't retain 2m. It's reasonable and shows potential, but it doesn't give you that "MUST SEE EVERY EPISODE NOW" feeling, shows like Homeland did. I am informed it makes significant improvement throughout the season though.

I was convinced The Mentalist would serve Castle well and it didn't particularly. Those shows are as close to compatible as it can possibly get and yet there was a gap of about 500,000 between them. No amount of credit squeeze / continuity plugs could bridge that gap.

Anyway, we'll see. On the US numbers it looks like a great pickup by 5 and I look forward to seeing how it gets on tomorrow.

Unusually high for The One Show last night, getting a figure and share we'd normally associate with a snowy day in January.

After the summer of sport, the move to BBC Two, and Kirkwood's departure, EastEnders coming home to BBC One and beginning the first day of the rest of its life. I was expecting the murder storyline to come to its reveal last night, but it didn't. It should get a ratings boost when it does, but ratings will dip down again afterwards. It's going to take a long time to put Kirkwood's mess right.

Probably fair enough for Big Brother. When last year's series finished, this thread spent several months pondering whether this year's series would finish before the Olympics, or start after the Olympics, but, in a triumph of stupidity, it ran straight through them (in bad slots) and finished the day after, so it rated decently enough under the circumstances.

ITV1's 9pm drama quite resilient against 'Enders and Big Brother : the Coronation St crutch works well for first episodes of Monday night drama series. Maybe, New Tricks can block that off for ten weeks in the autumn, but a lot will depend on how the audience reacts to another Jimmy Bolam exit from a successful drama.

TV spends too much time messing around with pilots, especially non-broadcast ones. The only way to test a show is by putting it on air for a few episodes.

Heard a radio ad for this Saturday's ITV1 line-up, yesterday. It mentioned X Factor, Red/Black and Jonathan Ross, but it said the evening gets started with Dom Jolly's new show. The listings mags don't agree, though. Ooopsie.

Yes, but Castle was a second run, two years behind US pace. It's quite conceivable that 500,00 people had seen the show on Alibi, pirated it or brought it on DVD

Channel 4 advertise a fair bit on Absolute Radio, normally short links advertising that particular evening's primetime lineup. Never heard anything for ITV but then I guess they'd be targetting the likes of Heart, Magic, etc.

Yet when Corrie and Emmerdale were airing on Sundays last month and not doing that well - I'm sure you said out of normal slot doesn't wash. Basically last nights EE was way below expectations. The BBC have trailed the big week so should have made viewers aware of these THREE extra episodes this week. Talk about overkill! Almost double the normal amount of episodes.


As for last night. The first EE pretty much in line with where I expected - but I did expect it to beat Corrie so that's a surprise. A big trailed week loses out to two very bog standard episodes of Corrie in weeks. Who saw that coming? Any ideas Robbie?

BB Final - whats to say really. Disaster IMO. BB is dead and has been ever since C4 axed it. C5 need to let it go. No one cares anymore. I used to be a fan years ago. Its had its day. Just let it go...

It sounds interesting and it'll be up against The Flowerpot Gang, Restoration Home, Superscrimpers and a Midsomer Murders repeat. Celebrity Big Brother is seemingly having an eviction. No Coronation Street on that Wednesday which surprises me; The Corrie Years: The Headline Makers is airing instead. Waterloo Road returns on the Thursday which may explain why Coronation Street is being kept as opposition to it; Crimewatch is having it's monthly airing on that night. Channel 4 have scheduled Whatever Happened to Harry Hill? at 9pm based on his show in the 1990s.

What's Schools Out (ITV1)? That's being lined up on Sunday week in the 8pm slot.

John Barrowman's Dallas has been pencilled in today. Part 1 'Dreaming of Bobby' airs Wednesday 29th August at 10pm, with Part 2 'Shooting JR' following immediately after at 10.40pm. These specials, produced in-house by Channel 5, will act as a precursor to the new series, expected to start on Sunday 2nd September.

Elsewhere, Disney's Beauty and the Beast is scheduled to premiere on Sunday 26th August at 6.20pm, leading directly into the season finale of Once Upon a Time.

It'll probably be Schools Out: Who Wants to be a Millionaire? or something.

Although why they are airing that just a few days before the kids go back to school is odd.
