I've been a vegetarian for a few years now, but would like to go fully vegan. My only hurdle is finding a nice milk substitute for cereals and for adding to my tea. I've tried Alpro unsweetened soya milk but there's a chalky after-taste that I don't like. I would be grateful for any suggestions, thanks.

Oat milk does sound nice. Is it a creamy or watery?

Also, are the milk substitutes that are enriched with calcium and vitamins better tasting than the plain original ones? There seems to be so many to choose from.

I tried oatly and found it absolutely vile. Tipped it down the sink.
It has a really grainy aftertaste as well.

You could try coconut derived milk - it's ok but a little watery.

I've just been working with several people who can't drink normal milk for one reason or another and they use soya milk, oat milk, almond milk, hazelnut milk and rice milk...

Each could advocate one more than the others but I guess it's just personal choice and experimenting. Good luck!

My sis in law buys rice milk from Sainsbury's. It's called Rice Dream.

Rice Dream is quite watery - worse than skimmed milk. Tastes ok though once you get used to it. Almond and hazelnut milk are my favourites but I try to limit the amount because they have added sugar.

I quite like the taste of unsweetened soya milk, it makes tea and coffee taste like it has full fat moo juice in it.

I have only tried it once and can't really remember the taste but didn't want to buy it again. Very watery from what I remember.

I have tried many over the years and at the moment am using Sainsburys own sweetened fresh soya milk in a litre carton.it tastes ok on its own and makes a lovely milky coffee. It is nothing like cows milk though.it is a drink in its own right.

I swapped dairy milk for rice milk in my tea and it took a while but am now used to it and in fact no longer enjoy tea with dairy milk. For cereals I used almond milk which is really really nice but very sweet.

The only trouble with rice milk is that it is quite carby.

I bought Rice Dream today, and I quite liked it with cornflakes, but there were lots of white bits floating in my tea, so I think it curdled.

I just get Sainsbury's own unsweetened soya alternative to milk normally. Tastes fine in tea - no floaty bits either, and it is so neutral in flavour anyway it works on cereal and in recipes that would normally use cow's milk.

I would recommend tesco's own brand sweetened soya milk, it's in a blue carton and is on the shelf next to the UHT milk etc.

I have soya milk on cereal, the sweetened one but it doesn't taste sweet. I don't like the unsweetened one. I have got a free sample of Blue Diamond Almond Breeze almond milk but haven't tried it yet.

Can't go wrong with Alpro soya milk. I use the light version-tastes great in my porridge. Not sure how well it works in tea and coffee, though, as I take mine black.

I started using soya milk about a month ago. The first one I bought was unsweetened but since then I've been buying sweetened versions, the Sainsburys Love Soya one being my favourite. I've got used to the taste fairly quickly

That's the most recent one I've bought and it looks like I'll be settling with that. I can still taste a slight chalky aftertaste though, but it's not as strong as the Alpro unsweetened one.

I found this today in Sainsburys:
http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Produ.../?id=261642366

The ingredients are: Water,Hulled Organic Soya Beans* (5.9%) ,Organic Apple Juice Concentrate* ,Sea Salt ,*Organically grown/produced

It tastes slightly sweet and would really recommend it OP, it was £1.39

I use this too. It's cheaper than the others and is perfectly acceptable in tea. I put it on my muesli but I don't know if I would drink it on its own.

I have the sweetened soya milk. I didn't like it at first to be honest, but I stuck with it and now I love it.
