gomezz - look, I'm pleased and happy that they've got the fix done. But my reaction to this, and my (unchanged) feelings in general are that they are a mess when it comes to keeping customers on-side.
The first thing that came out last week was pretty final sounding - we're sorry but we won't be able to fix it. That's it. And by the way, aren't we wonderful for getting all those channels to work at all? I won't reiterate all the bits of non-info that have been flying about since then. What would people do if they were given a conservative estimate re when the fix would be done? They would have been informed, kept onboard, and most people I know prefer that to being in the dark and guessing. Maybe it's the odd company I keep. No intention to cause offence to you or anyone else here - I just think that if you sell such a decent product, it's a hell of a shame to turn customers against you with shambolic customer relations and endlessly screwed-up updates. Are you any relation to MUTT Romney? Well done Humax- I'll award you an "honorary Gold" David |

OK, last word from me on this:
I take great exception to that last comment - did you notice that I said I didn't intend to offend anyone posting? Clearly such politeness is over-subtle for some. Stand by what I've said, and explained. If I'd realised that among the many friendly and helpful folk on this forum there are Humax fanboys, in front of whom the Sainted Brand must not be criticised, obviously I'd have trod more carefully. GAFL, man! |

I hope this doesn't override my custom firmware, I've got all the additional channels I want set up to watch and record to AVOID any olympics coverage.
I won't be happy if they disappear overnight. |

Just done the CF update to 4.0.8 - many thanks to the guy(s) repsonsible for the quick release.
Also I must thank Humax for the investigation and update, however I'm sure some one at Humax is probably getting alot of stick for this problem. It seems from other forums that this is exactly the same problem that was identified when channel 4 HD was testing last year and I suspect someone at Humax took the decision that there was no point wasting time and resource investigating the problem which went away when channel 4 made some technical adjustments (at the request of Humax maybe?). I can understand if channel 4 were not "compliant" somehow but it looks as though this was not the case and it was a genuine bug. The resource and overtime spent fixing the problem coupled with it being made public surely is not what Humax marketing personnel (or anyone at Humax) wanted. I do like Humax products but increasingly I speak to people who are losing confidence in them and their level of customer support (and product testing or lack of it). I haven't checked for a while but is internet radio still broken on the freeview HD and HDR models - again lack of testing. |

My HDR updated the firmware overnight wiping out my custom firmware. I have the new 4.08 version on USB but now see that the News Loop service has been terminated with all 6 screens now showing news - i.e., no weather feed.
See:- http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showt...1#post59985031 I wonder then if I need the custom firmware as this is the only use I gave it in the last few months. Also boot time is much quicker without custom firmware. Recording of the OLY channels works fine. J |

Recording of the OLY channels works fine. J If you do reinstall remember to re-import your channel list as yesterdays list remains. |

Too late for you this time but you could have done the modded firmware update yesterday ahead of time which would have stopped the OTA from installing.

It was being forced to record the opening ceremony with the Trevor Nelson commentary that upset me the most!.

QUOTE] Well I have A few humax satellite boxes, and I have always been very happy with them and the updates, and they still email me imformation as to what changes are happening and any new products they have coming out, The general service and updates is far better than I ever got from Pace, I have recently joined My humax forum, on http://myhumax.org and the information they give is second to none, so all in all I am very happy with humax and will be buying a new Humax box soon, when I need one |

Well I guess you are not happy - ANY new Humax release will overwrite whatever previous firmware is loaded that has a lower version number. That is why new custom firmware was released yesterday which contains Humax's 1.00.21 release.

Could not the modded firmware be patched so that the embedded version number is much higher than anything likely to be on an official release and so prevent itself from ever being overwritten by an OTA release?
While what you suggest may be possible - think of the situation where the olympic fix caused problems to the custom firmware and a solution was late coming - no olympic recordings. |

In that case one could elect to manually install the official firmware if the fix was more important to them than losing the modded firmware functionality. For example, to date I have not had any inclination to record the Olympic channels but would be loathe to lose the ability to record the standard Red Button channels.
Or even have two versions of the modded firmware: One which will be automatically overwritten and one which will never be overwritten? |

Flashing the 4.0.8 version will bring everything back the way it was. This time the fix is only for a service I do not want and I have programmes set to record tonight as I am going out in 1 hour. I hope I get this flashed and updated before then and my channel list restored, otherwise passers by are likely to find a smashed humax box of bits outside my window .

Normally, with new custom firmware improving on the previous I am more than happy to give it a try.

Phew, updated, channel list restored, manual timers reset and still 25 minutes before I need to leave...happy days.
Seriously though, (and I do feel relieved I got it sorted) it would be nice to have an OTA update warning rather than an automatic install to avoid these type of situations. I would have been quite happy to have allowed it to update tonight, as I have plenty of time tomorrow evening to restore my custom settings. |

I hope this wasn't accidently on purpose on Sky's part.
More likely laziness on the part of Humax, |
