Hi all

Can anyone recommend a product for the following hair type:

very curly, fine, coloured (blonde but not with peroxide) prone to frizz in damp conditions.

I feel like I've tried everything known to man (or woman) and nothing seems to work. I don't shampoo my hair, only condition it (every day otherwise it looks like a bird's nest). I've tried these leave-in conditioners, spray conditioners, conditioning masques which you leave on for half an hour, and nothing seems to work. My hair looks a feels dry and limp.

On the rare occasions I have a good hair day, the curls all sit lovely and springy, but I can't seem to sustain it for more than a couple of days at a time.

Grateful for any (more) hints or tips that I haven't already tried.

You probably have build up, all of the conditioner and styling products do need to be removed. Conditioner won't remove build up sufficiently on its own. Get a good clarifying shampoo, using it once a month should help.

Thanks Lushness, I hadn't thought of that. Can you get clarifying shampoos from the likes of Boots or do I have to go to a hairdressers?

I have fairly thick curly hair (not super thick). I use a good shampoo and conditioner. I like the dry remedy and damage remedy Aveda products. Since using their shampoos, conditioners and hair masks i've not had an itchy scalp or a bad hair day in the UK. They're not cheap but it's better than horrible hair. What brands have you used?

What styling products do you use? It's not just about the shampoo and conditioner! Try an anti-humectant product to help with the frizz an serum works too. I use a liquid gel by Aveda and that's pretty good at helping form the curls, dont use too much or too before the curls form naturally or you end up with limp hair.

Aveda is one brand I haven't tried yet. Up till now I've been using all the ones you find in the supermarket so it's probably my own fault for using cheap stuff. I don't use styling products - no mousse, or spray gel - as I find it makes the situation worse.

Thanks for the suggestion - I'll give Aveda a go. To hell with the expense. It'll be worth it to have nice hair.

I agree with the above. You ought to use a shampoo to strip the oils from the conditioner out of your hair. I put VO5 smooth and sleek through my hair while it is still damp to tame the frizz.

Thanks Burton. I've used the V05 hot oil treatment in the past but that only seemed to work for a day or two then back to limp, frizzy, sad-looking hair. I'm hoping now it's just because of the build up of conditioner in my hair, and that a clarifying shampoo will sort that out.

And to that end, I've just gone on Amazon and bought myself a bottle of Avalon Organics Lemon Clarifying Shampoo (it got good reviews ).

Thanks all.

That is an excellent shampoo, good choice! It's gentle but at the same time it does a good job of getting rid of all the product. I need to buy some myself.

Get it from Lookfantastic website as it's a fair bit cheaper than on their website and in salons.

I hope you manage to sort your hair problem out.

Have you tried the Naked range? They have fantastic products for curly hair. They stock it in Boots or you can buy it direct from Naked's website.

Morrocanoil is amazing. My hair sounds similar to yours. Had a cut at T&G and they used some on my hair to finish it. It's expensive but a little goes a very long way.

Argan oil is similar to Moroccanoil. I like the smell of both.

Do you brush? I quit brushing 6 years ago and I get far more curl and far less frizz. I use a wide tooth comb to detangle while conditioning. I also never ever towel dry or use a hair dryer, I squeeze the water out and then wrap it tight in a towel while I get dressed and then comb mousse through and then air dry. If I wash at 7am during winter it's dry enough by the time I start work at 9

I have very curly thick hair, that goes frizzy really easily. I use Herbal essence It's a curl thing shampoo and then Kerestase Oleo Relax serum to tame the frizz and Oleo Curl Cream to sort the curls out. Most days I have perfect ringlets until I get home (driving home with the windows down gives very windswept hair). I was having issues with it a few years back and asked my hairdresser what she would recommend and I haven't looked back. I found all the stuff on the high street didn't work. The John Frieda Frizz Ease serum just made my hair look greasy, the mousse made my hair crunchy.

I also always let my hair dry naturally, after my shower I wrap it in a towel to get rid of the excess water so it's not dripping and when I go back in the bedroom I clip it up whilst I moisturise and then I put the serum and cream in and style and finish getting dressed. My hair however can take hours to dry.
