I really enjoyed the book and hope that the film does it justice. The trailer looks very impressive.

I hope Hugh Grant isn't in it much. |

The book is my all time favourite, I must have read it 10 times and it never gets old. Looking forward to see how they adapt it for the big screen

Looks terrific and put me in mind of Benjamin Button.
i.e. Big, showy, a bit chocolate-boxy, but you end up loving it. |

I haven't read the book yet but just watched the trailer and it looks like it will be amazing. I can't wait to see this! Also, nice to see Halle Berry getting to show what she's really made of. I've always known she's a brilliant actress even when she's starred in cack like Catwoman and Gothika, so I hope she will take more roles like this and less like the aforementioned in the future. She'd be one of my favourite actresses if she did.

I also wasn't pleased to learn Hugh Grant is in it as I lose interest in anything he stars in normally, but I like the rest of the cast and the sound of the story so much I'm trying to ignore him. Maybe he'll surprise me and turn in something other than a half-arsed performance where he plays the same tired old nice-but-dim English gent YET AGAIN...I can but hope.

In an amazing feat of stupidity, the studio has decides to release this in the UK 5 MONTHS LATER than in the US.
An absolutely astounding decision to make, while at the same time taking people to court over illegal downloading. it may even be out on Blu ray in the states before it in the cinema here. Ahh well, they lost my money then. Absolute idiots. |

I can only guess it was an incredibly bad decision which they most likely either now regret or will in the future. I doubt if they realise what a bad error of judgement it is they can somehow pull strings to get it in cinemas over here any quicker, its probably all finalized now with no way to speed up the process.

The UK release date is a bit perplexing, not least because the book was written by a British author and that should ensure a good opening week at the cinema here.
But I reckon the studio must be quite confident about the film's reception if they're allowing such a wide gap between the release dates. Otherwise, you'd expect them to open it in several countries at once to minimise the effects of bad press. |

For those who want to know what they'll be missing in the long wait to February, reviews are starting to filter out after the film's festival premiere in Toronto. Somewhat predictably given the dazzling trailer, the technical accomplishments are being extolled by a number of critics, but the narrative is variously being described as disjointed, unengaging and repetitive. The Hollywood Reporter published a reasonable piece on it: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/rev...m-hanks-368919.

It's certainly receiving mixed reviews but i've not read one single positive review at all. Most are midding to downright negative. Style over substance seems come up quite often.

I've not read the book, but I wonder if it's one of those adaptions where you need to have read the novel to really appreciate the filmed version? Maybe that's why people are struggling with it? |

So, not five months, but just under four. Still seems rather surprising. Maybe the studio didn't want it to clash with something, or whatever. |

That is one awesome trailer! It's brilliantly edited and the three pieces of music (including "Sonera" by Thomas Bergersen and "Outro" by M83) complement it perfectly.
![]() Just seen this post on the IMDb message boards suggesting that 75% of reviews so far are positive, with six of them awarding 10/10 and quite a few 8s and 9s as well. Some of the actors are unrecognisable in multiple roles: Hugh Grant as a cannibal — who knew? Definitely in line for this one. |

Just a note on the long gap between US and UK release dates.
Because all the major Hollywood studios passed on the script, most of the film had to be financed independently. Warner Brothers then decided to provide a small portion of the budget in return for US distribution rights. Focus Features is handling distribution elsewhere, otherwise I'm sure it would have been released in most territories more or less simultaneously. |
