He was a real character on Bargain Hunt-an old school gentlemanly eccentric, if you like. RIP.

IN recent years David had become a well known BBC television personality, appearing on programmes including Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip.

He will be sadly missed by all those who knew him as well as everyone who enjoyed watching the television shows.

He died in hospital a few days after suddenly being taken ill.

There will be a tribute to David in next week’s Advertiser. If you would like to share your memories of him, please get in touch.

RIP - a very pleasant man, who will be missed on television.

No BH episode tomorrow [ there's something big going on in that London I believe ] hopefully the BBC will mark his passing with a small memorial ident on BH or Flog It.

Up until 2 weeks ago he had been filming for the Antiques Road Trip, I would imagine his family will still allow them to be shown as a tribute to him!

Assuming that it was completed. Otherwise they need a programme where he really shown brightly.

I didn't see the prog where he bashed his face but saw the effects. If he had a fall, I wonder if it was a fall and not some sort of mini-stroke where he collapsed. My mum had these but she just thought she fell.

RIP David Barby. Antiques programmes won't be the same without you and you used to be the chief auctioneer for Locke and England in the town where I live.

I think it must have been finished, fellow antiques expert David Harper tweeted this photograph of them at the Auction
