Just tried the BBC Olympic channels and find the a number come up as " No Signal " while others are working perfectly.
What's happening here ?

I have just encountered the same problems with a Panasonic PVR - for live transmissions.

Via Freesat, only the following Olympic channels are working as of now (1pm 28/July) > 160, 161, 164,165,170,171.

However, I did a rescan in 'Other Channel' mode (non Freesat) & lo & behold, found a whole load of Olympic Sport coming through loud & clear including Equestrian, Handball, Table Tennis, Tennis & Judo. (They are listed on the Freesat channels but when you go to them you get NO SIGNAL).

Don't know whats going on. Wonder if Freesat or the BBC do? So much for Freesat claiming to offer 24 HD Olympic Channels!

Anyway, in Other Channel mode, I ended up with the following Olympic Channels:-
1 = 74; 3 = 39; 4= 150 (HD); 5 = 14; 6 = 40; 9 = 41; 10 = 151 (HD); 11 = 16; 12 = 42; 13 = 43;
15 = 152 (HD); 16 = 44; 17 = 14; 18 = 17; 19 = 20; 20 = 112 (HD); 21 = 153 (HD); 22 = 46;
23 = 20.
(The first number is the Olympic Channel whilst the second is where it is in Other Channels mode - as long as you do a re-tune first).

Why have we had to go to all this hassel? I thought that Freesat would have been a clear winner over Freeview for this event due to the extra capacity. Why is the Freesat EPG not delivering what it says & we end up with NO SIGNAL on so many Olympic Channels?

To re-tune in non Freesat mode (for Panasonic at least):>
FUNCTION MENU / OTHERS / OK /SET-UP / OK / TUNING / OK /OTHER SATELLITE TUNING MENU / AUTO SET-UP / (Astra/Eurobird) Search mode = FREE CHANNELS / Channel type = TV/ OK
(It takes about 45 minutes during which you will not be able to use the Freesat equipment).

You obviously must select Other Channel mode to find these channels for viewing - unless Freesat/BBC get things sorted out!

I have a Sagemcom DTR94250 Freesat HD receiver.

Apart from many Olympic HD channel numbers being completely missing, half the ones that are there are showing "No Signal".

Also, if I try to use any of the Olympics channels, this causes the box to lock-up and requires a mains-off, mains-on, power cycle to correct.

Fortunately, I'm not that bothered about the Olympics, so it's not that much of a problem to me.

I have a very basic SD Bush Freesat box and a flaky satellite signal. Channel 150/Olympic red button service keeps dropping out - occasionally laoding the data service (after a bit of a wait) and sometimes showing no signal. Just done a retune (losing my settings - grr!), but now have all the Olympic channels loud and clear . 150 still misbehaving (doesn't take me to the sports, just reloads the listings, or shows no signal) so having to flick through the channels to see what's on, but at least they're there (151 to 174). Phew!

Done the retuning thing and am getting more channels, but it seems that the HD ones don't have enough signal strength for peripheral reception areas. This is a huge shame because the highest profile sports/matches/competitions are on the HD channels and the picture just keeps breaking up
Yet for other stuff there are two channels simulcasting the same sport at the same time (eg BBC HD cycling and BBC 3 same cycling)

On a Panasonic DMR-BS850 I have done a scan for " Other Satellite" and come up with 24 Olympic channels in SD and 24 Olympic channels in HD.
All are working perfect.!!!
With a little swapping in the menu I now have Channels 1 to 24 in HD and Channels 25 to 48 in SD
This is an outstanding forum and I am so glad with all your help but in particular the answer from Zandar.

Why arent the events that have taken place played on a loop rather than having a channel playing nothing?

It seems to me that these channels are being beamed down but Freesat have not matched them to their EPG. You would think that they would have got this right!

The HD channels epg all present and correct on my Foxsat-hdr epg.

You get 25 Olympic HD channels.

The situation remains the same this morning with Freesat still not showing all the available Olympic channels. (We can assume that some of the "No Signal" channels are because at that point in time, the BBC are not using these channels).

Anyway, as I mentioned previously, I have tuned in the Olympic channels under "Other Channels" (non Freesat mode) and this is offering a wide selection of Olympic sports.

In my previous list, I missed out some of the channels. These are (Olympic number first followed by "Other Sat" number):
2 = 13 (141HD); 7 = 76; 8 = 15 (142HD); 10 =77 (151HD);
12 = 42 (155HD); 13 = 43 (156HD); 14 = 17 (120HD); 15 = 78SD; 21 = 18 (153HD); 19 = 20 (157HD); 24 = 81.

You switch from Freesat to Other Sat mode via INPUT SELECT - at least using Panasonic. (You must first do a retune to get these channels).

In seems that the most likely way to get what sports are currently on in HD is to go to 150 & then hop upwards. (I am currently getting NO SIGNAL for those HD channels in the 140's so I presume they are not currently transmitting.

It's not that Freesat is not showing the channels, it's that either your Satellite dish is misaligned or your equipment if faulty.

The BBC Olympic channels are coming different satellites as the capacity is 'on loan' from Sky for the duration of the Olympics.
Some of these satellites do not provide as strong a signal as the satellite used by most of the Freesat channels,
This means an improperly aligned dish will not pick up these weaker channels.


When the BBC Olympic channels are not in use, there is a caption giving information on what sports are on which channels.
You should get a picture on them 24/7.
You should not be getting 'no signal'.

I'm inclined to believe zandar, that there is a problem. It seems to depend on what receiving equipment is being used.

I have a Mini-Dish fitted with Quad LNB. 2 of the feeds go to my Sagemcom DTR94250 PVR. Another feed goes to my Humax Foxsat. The Humax has ALL the channels, but the Sagemcom does not.

The Sagemcom was also showing "No Signal" on about 50% of the Olympic channels of the 12 or so it had tuned.

I performed a Manual Tune of all the BBC Olympics transponders, on the Sagemcom. All showed high signal and 100% quality, before scanning.

For about 10 minutes I had all the channels (from 150-174) on the Sagemcom. I tuned to BBC News for a short time. When I looked at the EPG (BBC Olympics Genre) 12 of the 24 channels were no longer there! I've now given up.

Fortunately, I'm not that bothered about the Olympics, but I can imagine some very p***ed-off people out there.

BTW, every time I bring the Sagemcom out of standby, it seems to be tuned to a either a non-existent channel (000), or a different channel to the one I was previously watching, and sometimes needs a mains-off, mains-on, power cycle to restore. This has all started happening since the arrival of the BBC Olympic channels. I'll be glad when it's all over!

150 is the new entry giving red button access to the HD streams (BBC Olympics RB). 151 is the first epg entry for the actual streams.

That sounds great, just been watching the cycling, Lizzie Armitstead did well.

I have just done a signal test & all the main channels come through with 10 for both Quality & Strength of Signal. On the Freesat special Olympic channels - at least those that work in HD, the Strength stays at 10 (out of 10) whilst the quality drops to 7 though picture looks brilliant. (I have tested this for both LNB inputs).

So, looks like nothing is wrong with my dish. Besides, it is the very same dish that is giving me ALL the Olympic channels in non-Freesat mode.

I have just been reading about the problems you have been having with the BBC HD Olympic channels. I also have a Panasonic Freesat box and have watched the channels that you say you are not receiving at the present time.
I was wondering if you tried to reset the box to shipping conditions first before you scanned in the channels to your receiver?
This has worked for me in the past when there has been a problem with the box tuning in channels either in Freesat or non Freesat mode.

Just tried a 'First Time Installation' on my Bush Freesat HD box and gained a full set of 24 Olympics HD channels, having previously been missing around two-thirds of them!

Worth a try if anyone else is wondering what's up with the same box!

I have the same problem with a basic Grundig SD box. The "BBC Red Button" channel is there but when I click to watch a live screen it returns to the menu!

I've had to do a manual re-install and enter the unlock code- the manual says "as FreeSat uses satellites you never need to re-tune, and your EPG will update automatically"! Silly people. Somethings gone wrong here as my neighbour has to do the same.

Recan/Reset Factory settings has fixed it and I can now see the missing BBC Olympic channels. Bah I don't even like the Olympics and won't be watching it anyway but it would me up as we shouldn't have to manual add new channels like this.

It seems the BBC's method of transmission wasn't so fool proof!

Everyone was moaning at Humax for not being able to record but it looks like the situation on other boxes is far worse with no channels at all.

Why the hell didn't the BBC run public checks before the Olympics started?

The could have run some public test programming in the weeks running up to the Olympics and asked people publicly to check reception and recording ability and report any problems back. That would have caught all of these problems in advance.

I have a panny Freesat TV. The EPG has updated itself automatically with the new category "BBC Olympics" and the channels 150-174 are all present and correct.

However, several of them persistently / consistently display "No signal". I haven't yet tried any form of factory reset / scan for channels (not sure whether the latter is available on this TV), but there is something "wrong / flaky" with the addition of these channels (something which I've not experienced before with other channels being added to the EPG).

However, I can't really grumble - I've got sport coming out of my ears from the 20 or so channels that do appear to work without tinkering, though unfortunately the channel which seems to show the beach volleyball does seem to be one of the ones out of action

I can watch all these channels fine on my Humax STB (can't record them though ), and my relative can watch and record them all just fine on her Echostar STB .

But then the satellite installer who put the dishes up at both properties was a real expert - me! *
