I was ready to buy today, but got really confused as each shop's salesperson told me the rival network has caps/throttling on internet while their doesn't.Any advise please?

T-Mobile caps your speed all the time but other than that I believe you can use as much as you want without any further issues.
Three have some sort of restriction on very heavy users but you really have to hammer it for that to happen.

Three don't restrict heavy users anymore. Only ones who break t&c, e.g using a phone sim in a broadband device.

T mobile don't cap users in terms of allowance but they have been known to cap speed at 3.8mbps. Not sure if this is still going on. Three do not cap speeds at all. I'd go with Three unless you need 2g fallback/don't care about the speed capping

Trafficsense has always been around.

The throttling aspect of traffic sense has been removed though after complaints during its first month. Three do not throttle heavy users anymore. Only traffic manage p2p.

How did you manage that?

Call me cynical but if it's been removed, why's it still in the T&Cs?

The terms and conditions have not changed.

They always stated that Three may run a traffic management policy at any time and that the details of that policy would be placed on their website.

So then Three could opt to start throttling people again at any time?

As could any of the networks.

Except that's not really the point given the OP asked about two specific networks/tariffs.

Three and T-Mobile both have a very similar excessive use policy. (not fair use) So they could both start throttling everyone if they want. Three are a bit more open about what they do where as T-Mobile cap customers at 3.6Mbps without telling them.

At the moment both networks offer truly unlimited downloading and speeds of up to 21Mbps. You're more likely to see high speeds on Three as T-Mobile can cap speeds like i said above.

Do you have any links or anything to back that up?

Because according to their network management documentation, T-Mobile only further restrict customer's speeds if they exceed their FUP and the Full Monty tariffs a) don't have a data FUP and b) are explicitly excluded from reduced speeds in the document itself.
There's nothing in there about throttling the heaviest users on the Full Monty tariff.

It's entirely the point.

The terms and conditions that ALL of the networks have allow them to introduce or alter their existing traffic management policies without the user having the ability to terminate the contract.

Given that Three currently has the most permissive fair usage/traffic management policy of all of the networks, to single them out is simply wrong.

Three have throttled right back. Download speeds where I live are now close to dialup speeds. Yeah, real quick. I do tether by moving the sim card from the Huawei E156 dongle to my Galaxy Tab. I do however have the correct data plan so I should not be listed as one of the naughty ones.

Might be contention rather than throttling. Have you asked Three?

No I haven't to be honest. In the past when this has happened they told me one of the masts was taken out of operation so it could be upgraded. Perhaps this is the case here again. Save for the last few weeks, the last 6 months have seen some impressive Three speeds in my area.
