Me, but no biggie, theres plenty of other stuff to do, it's easy to avoid them. Everyone else in my family is interested and enjoy it and I get it, I just can't get excited. It's not for political, or corporate reasons, those slimeballs will always be around,it's just not my cup of tea.

I've seen bits of them here and there but I haven't been following them properly. I liked what I saw of the opening ceremony though.

If only televising sport did lead to an increase inparticipation. However, all the evidence is that it does not:

Look, if you enjoy watching people play games, then fine but many of us don't and you're wasting your time in trying to persuade us that we're somehow missing out.
Anybody who questions whether cycling, running, swimming, triathlons etc are not going through a huge boom in popularity is obviously not participating or even acknowledging any of the thousands of events around the country.

The entrants in any of these have increased four or five fold over the last few years, whereby the increased popularity and media exposure of these sports will account enormously.

Rugby had a huge increase in participants after 2003 too. It fell away in time, but the numbers years later were still considerably higher than before.

I stand by comments that people not watching are missing out. It's a bit like having a huge party where everyone is having fun and enjoying themselves, but you get a few miserable party poopers sat on the on the sidelines not joining in. In this case those whinging about the cost and how much time it's taking up on TV etc are the party poopers.

I can only presume from your posts, it's not actually about enjoying it, it's about forcing it on those who don't want to know, and if I am missing out (in yr opinion), why should I care!

Still not interested - counting the days til it's gone.

I can see the appeal of it but i am not bothering, don't have any interest in it, not even watching the football and i love football. Looking forward to the new season big style.

It's probably the dismissing it as crap and meaningless that rubs people up the wrong way.

There are multiple good interest stories outside of directly sport. Double amputees who have got to a level of ability to compete with able bodies athletes in the water or on the track.

The competitors, medallists from around the world engaging with locals, is tiny in the scheme of things, but I've seen the warmness and respect from all sides which compared to your normal underground experience is a complete contrast.

Gold medallists who will soon be back off to serve in Afghanistan, others who have escaped war torn countries, down to those who have put themselves into a lifetime of debt to gain experience around Europe and the world. Female competitors from Afghanistan, Qatar etc.

So much that you don't see in sport, particularly football of late or in the celeb culture. I do hope nobody who is missing it, is longing for the return of that.

Even if you turn yourself off from all sport, there must be some parts of it that you can appreciate as a positive and if you cannot, I do wonder what it is that stimulates or evokes any feeling.

Oddly a huge amount of football fans have never looked forward to a season less than this upcoming one.

That's not my view, I don't begrudge the Olympics at all and my group have friends, mostly of whom do not enjoy watching the Olympics have been using it as an excuse to have all kinds of great parties and outings, as our partners (M and F) are goggle eyed at the tv at the moment. We definitely haven't felt miserable or whinged about the cost and party poopers? What because different people enjoy different things in life?Hmm.

You are missing out. I didn't think it would interest me but i have watched a few events the past 2 days and i love it. Seeing people achieve their dreams, has made me quite emotional!

I don't want your pity, nor do I warrant it because I don't have an interest in the Olympics.

It's your choice if you don't want to join in the party, but I do feel you missed out on something magical.
Yet you are happy to dismiss those who have no interest as warranting pity and being miserable, whingeing party poopers.

I'm not interest in the Olympics at all, but I just don't watch it and don't have a massive problem with it taking over almost all of television and radio at the moment. What I do have a problem with is that night after night on the news it's relegating stories about Syria and tonight's mass shooting in America to the 'in other news' slot, which follows about ten minutes of Olympic results nonsense. Why can't all of that be kept to the sports news section of the programme, and keep the main headlines for actual important world news events?

No, you're watching OTHER PEOPLE playing games. It's entirely vicarious. Do you kid yourself that you're really having sex when you watch porn?

Do you realise how arrogant that sounds? That, somehow, anyone who doesn't like the things you like is deficient in some way, probably mentally?

There are people in this country who don't like watching sports. Just accept that.

Last night I watched a very good film I'd recorded earlier : 'Fracture' with Anthony Hopkins. Far more enjoyable, to me, than watching people running round a track.

Ooh, I watched that also. I really like his films.

I am in no way a sports fan and didn't think I would catch any of the games but since watching the whole opening night I've been tuning in more than once every day. Looking back after its all finished I will have some great memories such as Jessica Ennis' Heptathlon, Team GB's medals, Super Saturday, Bolt's 100m OR, Phelps and the swimming events.

Even though I won't be able to see the games in the park I have still witnessed history in the making and will always remember London 2012.

There's still another week to go XD

People like what they like. I love the Olympics, yet some people (including my OH have zero interest)

This is absolutely fine. The same way I have zero interest in football, and would not make any effort to watch it at all.

It's just the way things are. We are all different (thank God) I could never imagine having to sit through a horse race or a football match, so I would never expect someone to sit through an evening of athletics (or any other sport they have no interest in)

Whilst I love the Olympics I can understand those that have no interest and dont get excited about it. I am the same when it comes to football, I use to quite enjoy it but now I think I would rather watch paint dry. I am fairly certain even if we reached a world cup final I wouldn't watch it.

What a pathetic thing to say. Those "sad sacks" have and will accomplish more than you ever will with that attitude.

I do think the media are now going totally over the top. Apparently this was "the greatest weekend of all time". Well if it was it went right over my head. We were away last week and hardly noticed the olympics. On Saturday night we were having dinner with friends so took no notice of the olympics whatsoever. Then i am told the next morning that "the whole country" were watching last night. Well they were not. I had no idea that we had won a few medals until sunday morning. Good on them but it doesnt make me want to jump up in the air with excitement! Although if I did I would probably get a gold medal for jumping in the air!! Seriously I watched the opening ceremony which I enjoyed and will watch the closing ceremony. Other than that I have tried the red button service to test it out and watched a few minutes on some of those sky olympic channels. But thats about it.
