Known to many as Eddie Yates, Twiggy or Onslo. But forever known to me as Mr Popplewick in The Trial of a Timelord: The Ultimate Foe. He died in his sleep yesterday evening after a 2 year fight against prostate cancer. RIP

It's so sad that we've lost another great actor, I loved him as Onslow.

That's very sad, he always played great characters. Sad for his family and friends.

I have to say, though I am deeply saddened by this loss, Hughes makes me laugh even in death -- on the memorial section of Gallifrey Base, one poster remarked:

Quote:
“As Onslow would say sarcastically: "Oh, nice!"”

This has raised more than one smile in the time since I heard the news

I don't think it was possible NOT to love Geoffrey Hughes. For me, he'll always be Eddie Yeats. May he rest in peace.

Bless him, one of our quieter legends, my sympathies to his family!

One of my favourite quotes is a Twiggy quote!

While trying to sell some knocked off 'Wash n Go' shampoo he explains!

'Its dat wash n go, ya know, the one where dat bird washes er 'air an p*sses off'

R.I.P. Geoffrey Hughes.

As well as the many acting characters he portrayed, a hard working Deputy Lord Lieutenant for the Isle of Wight, and I remember particularly how funny he was in pantomime with Roy Hudd (’Orful Onslow & ‘Orrible ‘Uddy) and Gerald Harper.

So sad. I met him once many moons ago. Great man and a great actor. R.I.P.

RIP, although he wasn't exactly going to win any BAFTAs, playing basically the identical same role in Corrie, KUA and Heartbeat. Sad to see anyones death but this man was very lucky as his acting skills went from A to B.

His role in DW was completely different and proved that he had a good range IMO

He can't just die! There are procedures to follow, necessary routines to be completed!

Its not always about being an award winning actor. Sometimes its just as important to actually entertain people and make them chuckle rather than be a fully paid up card carrying luvvie!

I like this quote from Helen Worth, who plays Gail McIntyre in Coronation Street:

"He was a master of gentle comedy and brought pleasure to so many people. He will be sadly missed."

Being the Valeyard in disguise, technically he played the Doctor.

The early 80's was the only time I ever watched Corrie and I remember Eddie Yeates really well. He was also brilliant as Onslo in Keeping Up Appearances and equally brilliant as Mr Popplewick in The Ultimate Foe which is my Fave Sixth Doctor story. He had loads of complicated dialogue in that and he pulled it of superbly.

'The Junior Mr Popplewick isn't permitted to expect anyone.'

Great stuff.

RIP Geoffrey Hughes

Maybe true, but I can foresee some people saying the same of a certain Mr T. Baker when he passes on.
