An Appreciation Thread for Laurie Duncan who playss Callum Kane in Hollyoaks.

For me the most interesting of the teens (although I guess that isn't that difficult). Part of the best family in Hollyoaks at the moment and one of the characters who I think is going to give us some fantastic scenes over the next few weeks as Callum tries to deal with his family....

Aww, what a great idea for a thread. I love Callum, ever since he first came I liked him and the character keeps getting better as well. I love Laurie too, i've been following him on twitter and I think he's really funny - well he's quite odd really but its in a really endearing way.

Glad i'm not alone in my Appreciaton

I absolutely LOVE all the Kanes. In the last few weeks i've adored every single scene, they work so well as a family.

I know quite a few people who are big Callum fans but I don't think they're on DS.

Did you hear that there's maybe going to be a thing with him and Sinead? What do you think? I always liked him with Maddie - when she wasn't being a nightmare - but i'm looking forward to this story because it will be a bit of drama if she cheats on Bart. I don't like Bart much anyway, can't say I blame the girl if she's looking elsewhere but I don't really see how her and Callum would work together because they're so different.

Yeah I did read some spoilers indicating a Sinead/ Callum pairing...

Personally I didn't like Callum with Maddie (mainly as I can't stand her)... my feelings towards Sinead are that I can't stand her either, but she is preferable to Maddie.

Hopefully the pairing will bring out a better side of Sinead

No i'm not much of a Sinead fan either, i'm interested to see it but I hope its not going to be a long term thing because I just can't see Cal with a girl whose not got much depth to her - but maybe if it does bring out something better in her i'll enjoy it more.

Same... but there are no girls in Hollyoaks, his age, that have depth (that aren't lesbians )....

EDIT - well I guess you could argue Pheobe - but jeez that would be 1 intense relationship

I actually thought they were going to start a Callum/ Theresa thing a while back when they kissed - but that came to nothing.

See thats why I think it worked with Maddie, believe me I agree she can be loathesome but I always felt that she at least had more potential than that if they would just stop giving her these daft plots where she gets a bee in her bonet for no damn reason. But they seemed compatible because she is sharp and clever and has a bit more to her (although its well hidden under all the bitching) I hope they redeem her character and get them back together. To be fair, Callum could do loads better but they worked for me despite the fact I wanted to bash her head in half the time.

I wanted to see something more with Theresa too, I adore Jorgie Porter and have loved to see her as a little ball of sunshine - when she's not shooting people - and him as a dark little rain cloud share more scenes. I think that dynamic would work well, I wish they would make them friends just to see that and it would annoy Joel.

That aside, what i've really loved is the alcoholism plot. I actually rewatched the episode where Callum and Martha have that talk in their bathroom yesterday and I thought it was absolute dynamite. This plot has really let Laurie come into his own, I can see him getting a lot of big stories if he sticks around in Hollyoaks. I just hope that the story will continue, its mean but I want Martha to relapse. I want them to squeeze every last bit of drama from that plot that they can and not just drop it like it never happened. There was a nice little bit of follow up in tonight's e4 with her just on the orange juice but there better be more than that, its the plot i've most enjoyed since the immediate episodes after Lynsey's death.

I'm happy, just read spoilers saying that the alcoholic storyline isn't over. Martha relapses at the end of August! I can't wait!

Should be ongoing for the whole time Martha is one the show really... however good that the Kanes will feature heqavily once more

Absolutely, they should show what a struggle addiction is and how hard it is to stop. I've just been worried that they'll 'fix her problem' before its reached its full potential.

Thats the trouble with Hollyoaks with certain storylines... I guess it depends how long the Kanes stay in the show and what else happens.

Hopefully it just doesn't either (as you say) have a quick fix or just get forgotten

So Callum was meant to be in tonight's first look for the exam results....what the hell happened to that whole story?

They've done that quiote a bit recently... I remember last year during the awful Abersoch week whcih introduced Maddie and co; there was meant to be a Duncan/ Ricky/ Mandy storyline that got completely edited out in favour of he Abersoch stuff.

There was also something else the other week too IIRC; annoying when that happens

They done it with Carmel recently and with Scott and Annalise, I know that. Its really annoying. I just hope they show Ricky's exit because it will be a disgrace if they let a character who has been on the show for years just disappear without a mention.

I enjoyed this week's episodes but I was looking forward to seeing Callum/Martha and even the Sinead stuff. So i'm pretty disappointed that was cut. Maybe they'll slice it in next week instead.

I think Callum should be on tonight's e4, unless they're cutting stuff again. Should be the Martha drama starting up again The only thing is I can't be bothered with Ally now being involved with Ash, I wish they'd made it someone else. I'm actually quite intrigued by his story but I don't want it overlapping on the Kanes'.

I'm a big old sucker for cute Cal/Martha scenes, I loved tonight's e4. I hope Martha isn't away for too long, i'm happy whenever the Kanes are on my screen but i'd prefer them not to be involved in this Ally business really.

Also, I must say, I think Laurie is going from strength to strength as an actor. Ever since he's had this alcoholism plot to dig his teeth into, he's really shown what he's got to offer. I can honestly see him becoming one of Hollyoaks long-running actors with a lot of big storylines and award nominations in his future. (Sadly probably not wins with Hollyoaks constant under-dog status) I just wish he was in the Laters' too.

I must admit, I really think Callum has become my favourite male character now. It helps he's easy on the eye, of course
