One Direction To Perform at the Olympics Closing Ceremonies!!

The current biggest act out of x factor and our favourite boys continue to be on the roll...

After a triple win at Teens Choice Awards in the US, winning all categories they were nominated in (even beating justin beiber in The Best Summer Love Song), AND having the first album released in 2012 to reach platinum sales in the Billboard 200, this is definitely another milestone in their already exciting young career!!

"The What Makes You Beautiful singers are definitely taking part in the historic event that takes place on 12th August.

"The opening ceremony was praised for its brilliant representation of Britain but director Danny Boyle forgot One Thing - and that's One Direction .

"They are one of the biggest bands in the UK and have been compared to The Beatles , so it's expected that some people - admittedly 1D obsessed people - were gutted when they didn't feature in the magical event last Friday .

"But fans of the five-piece can rejoice because we can exclusively reveal that they WILL perform at the closing ceremony of the Games in two weeks."

Sorry but I pray this isn't true. They do not deserve to be performing at that ceremony. We need long standing British acts that make our country proud to be British. They don't deserve it and as too people comparing them to the beatles then they're obviously deranged. If One Direction do perform in that ceremony I think we need help.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I can confirm it is official, the boys WILL be performing.

Oh please. Why should they not play?. There is enough time to feature musical legends and well as new fresh artists. They are one of many acts performing.

If Ed Sheeran is confirmed to be performing, then I can definitely believe it. Guess their trying to mix it up abit, Old British legends and newer music acts.

Yes the whole of the Uk will need some kind of help, as they are not achieving any medals thus far (bar a silver today)!! Having 1D on will totally bring the Games to a dismal climax in itself!!

I'm not really surprised by this, they're British, they're young, they're popular, and if I'm allowed to say so, they're overrated.

i'm sorry but if the opening and closing ceremonies are all about celebration of the british music-- old, new and upcoming-- not having the current global british phenomenon up there will be the more conspicuous in its absence!!

get over it!! lolz!!

I agree. They possess all the desired attributes.

Could have been worse though. Olly Murs may have been chosen.

Yes current, old and new British music. Ed Sheeran I can understand, take that I can understand, One direction I don't understand at all.
If you're going to let a boyband perform at least make it one which has actually worked to get there and not just enter a talent show and have Cowell spend tons of money on promoting.
Adele? Current and a bigger global phenomenan than them isn't there? The only reason they're there is because of young teenage girls complaining and buying their music. Get rid of them and 1D would be nowhere

Well the legend that is Macca had no problem doing that on friday.
1D performing will be a great way to get the young ones to watch the ceremony, it's a brilliant idea.

They are one of the UK's biggest exports at the moment. Adele, Coldplay and 1D are the biggest UK acts in America and most parts of the world at the moment.

I actually agree with this. Macca was an embarrassment. What an end to a quality event.

1D are very current and will suit a young, fresh audience. It is not the boys that I have an issue with. It is Simon Cowell. To achieve a career, young boys have had to manifest themselves into SC's XF puppets. This promotes the ugly, exploiting side of a Business Man not young fresh talent (which is what the Olympics are all about).

but that's plain wishful thinking on your part.

like the way you would rather pretend the boys haven't achieved anything of note, haven't made history, haven't risen far and way above a talent show that suddenly they are now validating!!

Its true though.... Percentages show that over 92% of 1D's sales are by young teenage girls.... They haven't made history they're just a big boyband, I'm not pretending they're not sucessful but they just don't deserve to be closing the Olympics. The motto of the Olympics is Inspire a Generation, and 1D are hardly inspiring

SC puppets, how?

another perspective is: two years ago, they were five individual schoolboys trying to find a place in the UK music industry...

now, as they say, the rest is history...

That user didn't even say anything about that, so I'm sure why you brought that up. The point they were making is if you removed the screaming girls, they don't have much of a fanbase. Boybands fanbases are made up of teenage girls, I know you're a fan but surely you can recognize that..
