A stupid quesion -sorry

When apps are installed on your phone do they get installed alaphabetically or by size. Imean how do they arrange themselves on the screens?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 and by default I have 7 screens on the home screen and 4 screens on the applications screen.

As my Orange Plus icon moved froom menu 3 to menu 4 (next to BBC News app) so I moved it back to Menu 3 (next to Angry Birds)

Is this Ok?

It depends on your phone and O/S. On my phone apps automatically create icons on installation, on my tablets they don't. On some devices they are sorted by name, on some by installation order.

Just move them to the screens where you want them, it makes no difference.

Yep, the apps on your screens are like short-cuts on a PCs desktop, you can arrange them anyway you like, even delete them without it removing the actual app.

With the applications button in the bottom right hand corner, tapping it will take you to a list of all the apps in alphabetical order if you want to see them that way. Here they will always be added alphabetically, and this will just add new pages as needed when you add new apps

so I cannot add blank pages to the applications menu they willbe automatilly addedd when you fill a page up with apps.

Plus by default you have 7 pages on the home screen (3 with icons and widgets, 4 blank ti add others) and 4 pages in the applications menu full of application shortcuts.

Home screens are where you put the commonly used applications and widgets. You can delete and add items to your home screens as you want, even the default ones. Just keep a icon highlighted and you should see a bin or remove icon appear, just drag the short cut into it and it will disappear off that home screen. It does not uninstall the application. To do that. go to settings, then applications, select the application from that list and you will see an uninstall option.

The applications menu is a list of all applications available. You only need to access it when you don't have a shortcut for a particular app on one of your home screens. I can't see any reason for adding blank pages to the list ?

You might want to have a look on youtube. There are a ton of android tutorials to get you started on the version of android you have.

but that is the beauty of a smart phone, you can customise the screens to your hearts content. Each person has their own way of organising the home screens. It unlikely that any two phones are the same even if they have the same apps.

You won't need to. Go through your screens and delete all the widgets and apps you don't want to use or even hardly ever use. Then rearrange those left onto whichever screen and in whatever order you want. If you have more screens than you need just delete the surplus ones. If you need more at a later date these are easily added (up to 7 as you say).
Everything is full customisable.
You can get to any apps not showing on the screen via the app drawer.

To clear the applications you don't want from the screen (not from the phone, don't worry) long press the icon and drag it to the top of the screen where a bin will appear. or long press it and tap 'delete'. When you have an empty screen pinch two fingers together on the screen and all your screens should show. Just long press the one you want to lose and drag it to the top of the screen.
If you want one back, just press the + sign you will see.

More help here.....

You can also move icons between screens by dragging the icons to the side, it should switch to the next screen.

This works in Ice Cream Sandwich, but not under Jelly Bean. Any ideas how to dismiss or add screens in Jelly Bean?

I believe it's been disabled in jelly bean. A third party launcher will give you the option....

Go Launcher is great. You can add and delete home screens and it has tons of free themes.

One of the reasons I love Android is I can customise almost everything to my liking and not how Google say I should have it.
