They do have hard slot yes. However if you plan use the older 360 hard drive you will have take it out of the case.

my view is buy the proper kit and you cant go wrong the 320 gb hdd is pretty expensive but comes with a download code for lego star wars 3 and isnt much more than the 250 gb if you start being a cheapskate and trying to mod something, you run the risk of damaging the console and invalidating your warranty my opinion edit no disrespect jesso

1. you put your own HDD in that still works perfectly fine, no need to switch over data etc. 2. You buy overpriced one from store that works perfectly fine. There is no difference to the HDD's in older models, than the ones in the newer ones. Some are even coming with the same exact same drive. |

and yes with price differences are at the moment unless you've already got a 120gb+ drive there is not much reason to go for 4gb model, if your indeed of a hard drive. |

You can buy a slim hdd case on ebay for pennies.
I was upgrading to a slim, I didn't want a new HDD. I got my old HDD, broke open the case easily. Put the HDD into the slim case and its been in my xbox ever since. |

I would not open it if you ever want it repaired under warranty.
Is it really worth the risk when the transfer cable only costs about £15 & that's the official MS one

You do not need open up your console at all, or void the warranty. You simply take drive out of older case put it in the newer case, and slip it in the xbox 360 like you would with a drive bought from a retailer.

All you are doing is taking your HDD from one xbox (old model) and putting into your new model |

This is what I did too, except I didn't have my original hard drive so bought a 60gb one from CEX for about £15 and a slim case off ebay (paid less than £20 in total I think), this is a route I would recommend

Also are there any good guides (or youtube videos) that detail the process? I am comfortable working with computers but do like to know exactly what I'm doing first. |
