Best British miniseries in the last ten years?
It's fair to say we've seen quite an array of miniseries of varying quality in the past decade. Two that spring to mind for me recently would have to be the chilling 'Appropriate Adult' and the absorbing but equally gritty 'This is England 88.' The former took a taboo subject and told a very sensitive story from the perspective of Fred West's real-life appropriate adult Janet Leach and how her life would never be the same after being assigned the Cromwell Street case. The latter followed the equally brilliant 86 installment and portayed the psychological breakdown of central character Lol with gusto, realism and a heartbreaking performance from Vicky McLure. I've compiled a list of some notable mini series that spring to mind. If there are any others that I've missed out (as I'm sure there are many!) please mention them if you rate them particularly highly:
Marchlands This is England 86 This is England 88 Mayday The Children Five Days Broadchurch Place of Execution White Heat Five Daughters See No Evil: The Moors Murders Collision The Prisoner The Crash Elizabeth I The Virgin Queen Bouquet of Barbed Wire Birdsong House of Sadam Appropriate Adult The Jury II Murderland Titanic Injustice True Dare Kiss Casanova Unforgiven State of Play The Red Riding Trilogy A Mother's Son The Last Enemy Bleak House Lost in Austen Sense and Sensibility The Pillars of the Earth North and South |

One that I really liked but is not as well known as others is Conviction which was on BBC Three
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conviction_(2004_TV_series) From your list my favourites would be See No Evil, Red Riding and State of Play (which I only watched a year or so back after seeing the film adaptation) |

Second that. Good performances all round and I liked the intrigue surrounding who had passed away. I was actually quite taken aback when the character's identity was revealed as I found it quite affecting. I also loved the soundtrack, complementing the social and cultural changes throughout the decades.
Structurally, it was interesting as we traced the trajectories of the characters' lives throughout the ages and how real-life events and changes influenced them.

Red Riding, State of Play, Blackpool, The Shadow Line. All first class must make a mention of both series of Life on Mars.

Parade's End, outstanding performances from Rebecca Hall and Benedict Cumberbatch and a masterly script from Tom Stoppard. I mention it in as many threads as I can
but for me it's the best british drama in years.

If Broadchurch is going to be counted as a "miniseries" with 8 episodes then I can count Utopia as a miniseries at 6 eps. So:
Utopia |

Rebecca Hall is masterful as the infuriating Sylvia. All the cast from the fab Roger Allam to the bonkers vicar Rufus Sewell. It's beautifully romantic (the end)and also quite funny (breakfast in the vicarage or the golf course!). |

Loved this series. Great cast in the form of Sarah Lancashire, Eva Birthistle, Jaime Winstone and Nathalie Press amongst others. I particularly liked how the personal lives of the troubled victims were to the forefront and not their horrific demises. We were given an eloquent portrait of the lives of five ordinary women and the devastating effects of their passing on the families left behind. Particularly touching was when we saw Annette Nicholls' poetry being referred to. Unfortunately the series isn't available on DVD, does anyone know where I could view it again?
