Can anyone explain the logic of Rivers prison sentence ?

She keeps escaping and being taken back there by the doctor the "victim" of the "crime" she was suppose to have commitied. Plus it is the wrong century. Doctor died in a "fixed point" in the 21st century yet River is imprisoned for it in the 51st.She should be doing her porridge in present day Utah.

She is supposedly mentally ill a psychopath with gaps in her memory. Yet instead of being commited to a hospital she is allowed to stand trial and be convicted and sentenced.

Imagine the trial witnesses are her parents and Canton plus a future version of River herself. Plus the teselecta "body" was destroyed leaving little or no forensic evidence.

Why do they never search her cell ? they could easily remove her hallucnogenic lipstick and vortex manipulator so she couldn't use them anymore.

Why is she allowed her own wardrobe and possibly a hairdresser? (unless she colours and styles it herself to pass time). Those bright orange jumpsuits with the numbers would not look good on anyone.Imagine her in a chain gang!.

Finally Rivers phone "privilliges" who does she talk too?.
Only two numbers I can think of her husband on the tardis or her parents in present day ledworth. Would they feel bad if she did call upset or just needing to talk ?.

Doesn't she have a vortex manipulator which allows here to travel through time?

Maybe we haven't witnessed her crime yet. The whole 'good man' question about whether it would be the Dr or Rory could still come back.

After all, we still don't know what happened with the Silence down the tunnel with Rory and River - I can't believe they will miss that opportunity for a good old fashioned plot twist!

Isn't it all about what River is being told over time by Madame Kovarian and what the Doctor has written in the book he gave to her, such manipulation can backfire and River has a habit of being a loose cannon.
