Emeli Sande sound like Leona Lewis?
I've finally listened to Emeli's album in it's entirety. Doesn't she sound very reminiscent to early Leona?

It's really interesting. Quite a few sound like Leona, but then there are songs like Mountains that sound like they were songs that didnt make it onto Beyonce's Sasha Fierce album.

Apparently Mountains was written for Leona's Glassheart but it didn't make it so its gone on Emeli's album instead.
Really? It's my fave song on Emelis album. |

I'm interested to hear Trouble though, I love Emeli's writing, NaughtyBoy's production, and Leona's vocals

I don't think they're anything alike. But I like them both.
I like Emeli's album, but it's a bit dull in places for me. Doesn't help that I bought it at the same time as buying Lana Del Rey's album, and playing them together just made Emeli's fade into the background. I do love "Suitcase" though. Very sad, very beautiful song. |

i cant listen to lana for too long. she's so bland and depressing. after a while she starts to sound like the moaning dead. i much prefer emeli.
It wouldn't be healthy if we all liked the same thing, would it? That's cool. |

I always thought Next To Me sounds like a Beyonce song, and indeed thought it was Beyonce when I first heard it on the radio

Now, now, Lana is the Sparkle Rope Jump Queen, Queen of Coney Island, Queen of Saigon for that matter, most certainly Queen of this year. Bland? Mad, bad, and at the same time totally nice, wonderful, arty and oh so sensitive, but never bland no, no, you have her quite wrong. Lana world is a far more fun, if dark place than anybody else has dared take us this year. Or many others years, one of the best albums ever. End of conversation.
But I'd also give Emeli some top cred. She doesn't light my red fire babe, hot white and blue or make me feel like a Million Dollar Man like Lana does, but good on her for having a go. I don't like this Leona Lewis comparison as I'd say Emile Sande has done more of this on her own vocation, as opposed to Leona who has benefited from being Cowell's puppet. If there's any similarity its because both had fed off similar musical influences and as said Emeli wrote for Leona. So good on Emeli too! She deserves respect. And I'll throw in another top female vocalist just for the sake of it: Ladyhawke. Muck Fee, what an album her latest is. What a lovely work of Indie pop. Suspect nobody will buy it in the quantities as any of the other female vocalists mentioned, but I think its a corker. Ultimately, I feel blessed that we simply live in a time of so many top draw female singer song writers. And that, really is cool. |

Lana just isnt for me. I'd much rather Paloma Faith, tbh.
In terms of emeli sounding like Leona not quite credit where credits due emeli has a nice soulful tone and can convey emotion and sentiment without wailing like a cat being sat on but in saying that neither really light my fire and i find both to be insipid and a little dull
