Sky box crashes during poor signal periods

Firstly, I accept that during certain parts of the year I get degraded signal quality/strength due to trees, so that's not my issue here, although it's obviously the cause.

The problem I've had with all my boxes, going back to when Sky first started, is that their boxes are particularly useless in dealing with the loss of signal.

If the box is in standby it's fine and doesn't seem to matter what happens with the signal, but if the box is switched on and the signal starts to degrade and then go out completely, with it returning intermittently, the box will simply crash/hang. When I know it's happening normally I just switch on, but during the Olympic opening ceremony when I huge storm hit us, I tried to bear it but after about 10 minutes the box just hung. In the end I gave up and switched it off.

Is it really possible they can't program these things to cope with such a simple occurrence? It can't be that hard for them to simulate during their QA testing.

I've never seen this happen with Freeview OTA - even the crappiest signal can't cause the TV to crash.

Possibility that you dish needs adjusting. It has to be torrential rain or thunderstorm to lose my signal
