Microsoft Word Problem

I hope someone can help. When typing sentences at the end of a line it leaves a gap under each sentence ie:

Microsoft word problem

Microsoft word problem

How can I get it to revert to:

Microsoft word problem
Microsoft word problem

Ive looked on the menu but just can't find a solution, any help on this would be appreciated

Word adds space under paragraphs by default. There is a simple checkbox to turn it off.

There's also a toolbar icon for line spacing, just click it and drop down to the option to 'remove space after paragraph'.

That nonsense is the single biggest annoying default setting for me in Word 2010.

Is there a way to permanently turn it off?

In Word 2010 you right click and then choose Paragraph. Make the desired changes and then click on the 'Set As Default' button at the bottom of the box.

Why would you not want a line space between paragraphs?
If you hit return rather than allowing words to wrap, then that
means start a new paragraph.

Like here. Spacing between paragraphs makes it easier to
read. There is nothing worse to read than a solid block of text.

Unless I have totally misunderstood your problem.

(PS: I have cheated here with extra returns to narrow the margins, otherwise each paragraph appears as a single line.)

Thanks for this. I use Word 2007 and it's been bugging me for ages!

How about if you are typing a single line spaced list? Also some of us trained as typists many moons ago and some habits are VERY hard to break! Still each to its own!

Half unrelated question, I'm using a different font that I installed myself and whenever I use punctuation, all the following text changes to Times New Roman and I have to keep changing it back. How do I stop that?

Yeah that - and also if it's the default, every time you create a table there is a line space inside every table cell beneath your text .... ridiculous.

Press shift and return to create a soft return. Alternatively apply bullets and it will normally close the list up.

That's a lot of faffing around IMO. Not that it matters now I've switched off the spacing thanks to a previous post.

I have always used shift-return to avoid the paragraph space. I've not found it particularly onerous.
