Dearest Hearts fear not. Whilst "Performance Enhancing" is not a term Team GB wishes to be associated with, I've been brought in to make sure Rebecca Adlington wins gold in the 800m freestyle.

Rebecca will deliver Gold in the 800m. Bet 100b on that and pay off the deficit in one go.

I don't care what anyone says, it is a little disappointing not to be exceeding our performance at Beijing, considering we are hosting, we knew we were hosting, and have therefore been pouring investment into competitors.

That's five good opportunities of medals (6 if you include both swimmers) tomorrow by my reckoning, I think some of the best opportunities we've had so far.

Rowing
Women's Pair & Men's Eight both very good opportunities.(with women's quad an outside chance of a medal)

Cycling
Men's time trial
Women's time trial

Swimming
200m Breaststroke final with 2 Brits in the final 1st and 3rd quickest.

Edit: added women's time trial - didn't think it was the same day as men's.

Actually the secret buried by the gov and men at the top is funding was REDUCED since Beijing !

Very embarrassing to do worse at a home games but it is looking that way now.

Are you talking about the swimming specifically or the team as a whole? If it's just the swimming then I agree with you, if you're talking about the team as a whole then, for the millionth time, it's way to early to tell how we'll do.

So Becky Addlington gets a bronze by swimming faster than when she got the gold and more money would have made her swim faster!!

I think unless it picks up it will be embarrassing.

The swimming performances seriously need addressing.

Apart from Adlington we're not really looking any kind of a threat.

The Tennis has been amazing
As was the horse jumping earlier.Im sure national pride will be dented if it remains zero
but goto be honest the viewing figures alone.over nine million people watched various events via the BBC website alone. Its been a massing smash.

I just wish the media would drop the obsession with medals and take a stand let the USA/China to slug it out.

Did you miss the men's breaststroke? We've got a chance there. Also apparently our open water swimmers are better than our indoor ones. But yes we would all have wanted our swimmers to be performing better. Their performance is not indicative of the Olympic team as a whole though.

Yes, I watched that but there's still a part of me that believe's that will go belly up too.

The men do look more promising, the women have been disappointing.

Is there any chance Team GB could fail to win a single gold medal at our own Olympics?

How embarrasing that would be.

It's like flipping groundhog day in here. Are people really utterly incapable of reading through a thread before adding their post to the pile?

No we are not going to fail to win a single gold, sigh.

I think Team Canada have already beaten Team GB for that achievement in the 1976 Montreal Olympics with zero gold.

The flipside David Cameron cant use that to hide behind for the next few months.

the report on Skynews today sadly proves another Myth London is empty locals are staying clear because they were told.Outsiders are saying away because they think its crowded there.

if the people who make the finals truly cant win but try the very best they can I dont see what more they can do.

All this Team GB, Team Canada, Team USA reminds me of this Jeff Stelling rant.

There are still loads of gold opportunities for Team GB. Especially in the athletics. Lets not write them off yet.

Time's have changed
Our kids are getting worse
They won't obey their parents
They just want to fart and curse
Should we blame the government?
Or blame society?
Or should we blame the images on TV?

No! Blame Canada, blame Canada!
With all their beady little eyes
And flappin' heads so full of lies
Blame Canada, blame Canada!
We need to form a full assault
It's Canada's fault!

Don't blame me for my son Stan
He saw the darn cartoon
And now he's off to join the Klan
And my boy Eric once
Had my picture on his shelf
But now when I see him he tells me to f**k myself!

Well, Blame Canada, blame Canada!
It seems that everything's gone wrong
Since Canada came along.
Blame Canada, blame Canada
There not even a real country anyway.

My son could've been a doctor or a lawyer it's true
Instead he burned up like a piggy on a barbecue
Should we blame the matches?
Should we blame the fire?
Or the doctors who allowed him to expire?

Heck no!

Blame Canada, blame Canada!
With all their hockey hubbabaloo
And that bitch Anne Murray too
Blame Canada, shame on Canadaaaaa!
The smut we must stop, the trash we must smash
Laughter and fun must all be undone
We must blame them and cause a fuss
Before someone thinks of blaming us!

Yeah, I think a lot of these "zomg what if we end up with zero golds?" comments will look really silly by the end of the fortnight

Zero golds? Are people actually serious?

Some of the comments on this thread are absolutely ridiculous. Also, I really hope we can better Beijing, but let's get some perspective: Beijing was an absolutely remarkable games for GB. I think the team is more than capable of bettering the tally but our performance in those games was truly legendary and getting around that medal tally again, be it a few medals over or a few medals under, would still be an extremely positive result.

People seriously need to hear themselves. I have been a little negative from time to time but zero golds? Please tell me you're not being serious.
