In all fairness, they haven't really promoted her in the States a lot. But at least she got a couple of nominations. What about Madonna?

Agreed. This is going to be her year! I predict she'll get at least 2 awards

I am not suprised about Madonna but minus her recent video, her videos for this era have been amazing. Her best since American Life.

Exactly! I think 'GGW' was too raunchy, which is why it didn't get any nods, but I thought 'GMAYL' would be nominated at least in the pop categories

Madonna has never chased awards though. People have to remember that. When ever she has won its been off the back of being amazing purely by chance. Not by going all out in the most desperate of ways just to win a VMA like some have done!

Pleased for Rihanna. At last she might finally get a VMA! not too disappointed for Lana as her best is still to come so she has plently time yet.

You're right about Madonna, but I thought she was going to be nominated in at least one category! I'm a little surprised.

And yes, I think Rihanna is definitely going to win this year. Both 'WFL' and 'WHYB' were amazing videos!

MIA Bad girls is the best video of the year but if that doesn't win, then We found love should win.

Or because the guys in heels put the homophobes off putting it up for any awards

M.I.A. is this year's biggest surprise. Her video barely got any rotation on MTV, yet she got 4 (I think) nominations! I loved her video, so I'm pleasantly surprised, though

This is what I voted for. I didn't vote for Best New Artist and Best Hip Hop Video, but I wish I could vote for Art Direction and Choreography. Too bad these are not voting categories

The first two performers have just been announced

Alicia Keys and One Direction

Source

I'm excited for Alicia. She'll obviously perform her new lead single, so it's going to be a good way to kick off the new era

A bit unneccesary though. There really wasn't really any need for you to do that.

Happy with the nominations, reckon Rihanna will probably win the most awards on the night followed by Katy Perry.

Why are people surprised about Gaga?! She hasn't released any video to qualify for a nomination has she?

Anywho, I hope Rihanna wins a few for WFL, brilliant, gritty video. I am also surprised Lana didn't get a single nomination her videos are always great. I can see One Direction winning a few if they're fan voted.

I don't think GaGa fans have a reason to be upset either. The only video she released during the deadline was 'MTN' and it didn't get a really positive feedback. Besides, if she promotes or better yet premieres a new single at the VMA's, I don't think she's too fussed about being "snubbed"

I hope more artists will be added to the line-up soon. MTV has only confirmed Alicia Keys and 1D. I expect an announcement about Rihanna pretty soon. She has loads of nominations, so she'll probably be performing, even though she's currently on vacation around Europe.

Agreed but hardly unexpected. The Best New Artist snub is the most glaring one. Her album, whilst far more 'popular' elsewhere in the world, is still the best selling in the US by a US 2012 debuting artist (even though not one single has been released to radio there). The SNL debacle still in play there, sadly. Oh well. Their loss, hopefully us in Europe will get even more of her than if she had really taken off in the US.
