Bad news for BT vision.

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/media/ne...w-service.html

BT really need to agree a similar deal with Sky or their you view offering will be very weak in comparison to talk talk now.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

SKY AND TALKTALK PARTNERSHIP DETAILS

This includes Sky1, Sky Living, Sky Arts 1 & 2, Sky News, Sky Sports News, Sky Sports 1, 2, 3 and 4, Sky Sports F1 and the full suite of Sky Movies channels on Talktalk You view.

Alongside the linear TV channels, TalkTalk customers will later be able to access a range of subscription video on-demand content through the Sky Anytime service.

TalkTalk has also today agreed a deal to offer the full suite of channels from UKTV, the BBC Worldwide and Scripps Networks Interactive joint-owned broadcaster, on its YouView platform.

But you can't record them and they're SD. No match for Virgin or Sky.

BT probably will, Talktalk are always more nimble on their feet than BT, who will get there - but a month or two later .

I can't see the relevance of the above comment in a BT Vision board/thread about online entertainment, you seem to be comparing apples and oranges.

I assume Sky's Now service will be available on all YouView boxes, regardless of what provider they've come from.

So BT customers will still have access to Sky shows, albeit not as a linear channel.

The consensus seems to be that these channels will be available via the Talk Talk app. Presumably the app will check that you have a TT connection / have paid for it.

I would have thought that given that TT are giving their boxes away to their customers, they'll be keen that those customers don't subscribe to any BTV app. And I'm also sure that'll work both ways.

Forgive me @Derek500 I had not noticed that you were talking about Sky 'NOW'. You are, I would have thought, quite correct.

In the future, yes, but Now TV currently only has films.
I don't see this as a Sky-TalkTalk partnership, more a continuation of the existing TalkTalk TV offerings. A partnership with Sky would include Sky Atlantic but Sky do not viably price it for other platforms to resell it.

Yes, but have you seen how much it is going to cost? Just looked at Talk Talk website, £30 for sports channels, £15 for movie channels and £15 for entertainment channels. If someone is going to pay that much, then why not just go to Sky directly?

Because these are month by month deals with no contract so may suit some people.

£15 for Sky Movies - cheaper than on Sky's own platform

£15 for entertainment - I think it's a well priced package considering it leaves out all the rubbish and just provides channels people will actually be interested in. To get access to the same channels on Sky you'd have to have both the Entertainment AND Entertainment Extra packs.

I do have Sky and I know for the extra money you do get a lot more, but for £15 the TalkTalk deal is superb especially with the added in on demand content too.

£30 for Sky Sports is very expensive but wait and see what Now TV offers when it adds sports.

Won't all these channels eventually be available through Now TV? And therefore what is TalkTalk's unique selling point?

The headline is misleading, Sky is just one supplier to TalkTalk, it has a wealth of others including those from UKTV and the Discovery Networks. Even if all Sky-owned channels can eventually be obtained via Now TV, the others may not be.

Well, I still think that it is pricey and if they are trying to get people who have so far resisted all other methods of subscribing to paid for TV, then I'm not sure it's going to work. It may attract some people who are not in a cabled area, don't have or want a dish and who don't have or want BT Vision, but I suspect not the majority of, thus far, pay tv refusniks.

I reckon that most people who really want the sports channels probably already have them and I'm not sure the sky entertainment and movie packages are that much of a draw. £55 a month is a lot of money to pay for TV, I was actually shocked when I saw the pricing. I'm not sure that BT will be that worried. We shall see....

The £15 pack is the top none premium pack though.

For £10 you get all the entertainment and documentary channels, the only thing left out is music and kids. Pretty good if you ask me. At the moment because the price of BB is half price for 12 months you could get this for around £27 including line rental, think it could be quite appealing to some people who don't what to pay loads for pay tv but want a bit more than freeview.

For £5 you can get just the sky channels, bit of a strange one that but might be good for some people.
