They're trip hop - delicate sounding experimental music, similar to the sound of Massive Attack and Sneaker Pimps.
Edit : Haunting is a word I'd use to describe them. |

The 411 - Teardrops samples Portisheads - Sour Times. Glory Box was their best song. They have 3 albums, Dummy (1994), Portishead (1997) and PNYC Live (1998).

Beth Gibbons is a truly amazing singer and songwriter. She is solo now I think, but does still write songs for Portishead I beleive.

I am imagining they are a bit like DJ Shadow.... "haunting" - that's how DJ Shadow sound.

Portishead are just brilliant and their music is haunting. Their Dummy album is consistantly good from start to finish and I still haven't grown tired of their sound since that album was released.
Also check out a little known Bristol band called 'Crustation' and Goldfrapp's first album 'felt mountain'. http://www.discogs.com/artist/Crustation http://www.discogs.com/artist/Goldfrapp Last edited by mikeydb : 02-12-2004 at 16:44. Reason: Links added |
