I am wondering if BT thinks your box is one of theirs and Youview thinks it is a retail box so both are vying with each other to make sure it is up to date with what they think is the latest software?

I went up and checked the software that was installed after the factory reset and the only difference is -

was
component 1.2.6

now
component 1.0.16

I did go in updated the software from the menu, but it says I am up to date. Is component anything to do with the epg? and will therefore get updated overnight? Clutching at straws.
I do have bt ondemand in the youview menu.

If and when you get the Yellow button back have a look and see if BT On Demand is still available. That may be the clincher to prove my hypothesis.

Will do, not sure if I actually had the component 1.2.6, I have it written down on a piece of paper but my previous posts i only state 1.0.16. Not sure if I may have written it down after the yellow button re appeared. If it does re appear then I will check bt ondemand and the software.

They arrived this morning and I switched over my cable in my bedroom for the youview box, I kept the power on, did it in standby mode, and guess what, my channel list got restored and the yellow button has disappeared. I have done a full factory reset via maintance and it didn't work, neither did the auto connecting option under networks. So now I will play the waiting game and see if it auto fixes itself.”

I'm unclear what benefit you think Cat6 cables will provide. Cat 5 is perfectly capable of running gigabit ethernet, and the Youview box only supports 100 megabit anyway. Bit of a waste of time I suspect.

Also while I'm fine with installing Cat 6 solid core in walls or under floors etc, I find Cat 6 multicore drop leads annoyingly stiff and won't bend nicely on shelving etc. So I tend to stick with Cat 5e for drop leads.

Yeah I think it is only my pc that has a 1 gig port, think xbox is also only 100MB, as I say it wasn't that big an outlay for the cables, so no biggie on the wallet. One thing that I notice with the home hub is that it needs to be higher than from the level that the cables are coming from, ie if I have the hub on the floor the cables push the hub onto its face, but if I put the hub on the top shelf of my tv stand and have the cables feeding upto the hub then it is fine.

I am sitting here thinking that I should go and do a factory reset without broadband connected, see if that makes a difference. Think I will go and try that just now It will be good to get to the bottom of this, I hate crappy channels, shopping, sl@ppers on a couch, channels in the 200's and the radio channels, surely not the greenest way to listen to them

I think my problem is having the POWER taken away from me, that bothers me so much

Think I have it sussed.

So I did a factory reset with no internet connection, no bt on demand etc and there was no yellow button when it had finished. I plugged in the internet and did the s/w update via the menu, and the yellow button has re appeared.

Component updated to 1.2.6
Bt on demand is also there.

So why is it different when I do a factory reset with the internet connected, and when it re installs and downloads the latest software I only got component 1.0.16 and when I went into the menu to get the latest update it said I was up to date

A damn good question and one for BT and Youview to answer I think.

So I ran my test for the last time, hopefully never again

So my box is working perfectly

comp 1.2.6
yellow button on epg

Unplug my home plug at mains, it also has a plug socket built in, which has a multitap connected for tv and youview box. Plug it back in.

comp 1.0.16
no yellow button
software update states this is the latest software

Factory reset with internet connected

comp 1.0.16
no yellow button
software update states this is the latest software

Factory reset with internet unplugged
Once reset is done, plug in the internet and then do a software update via the menus

comp 1.2.6
yellow button

The manual update does change it from 1.0.16 to 1.2.6. Hopefully humax are aware of this and will fix it in the next software update. It is quite a lot of hassle to go through if you unplug your box, and yes the yellow button is worth it

So my sky ran out today removed the box and i have just promoted my humax to the sitting room. Thankfully the latest firmware has remained the same and i haven't lost the edit channels option or had to do a factory reset. Happy days.

I am noticing that on bbc1 hd, everytime i am on the channel i get crackleing sound. Anyone else suffer from this?

I am already missing sky sports news for my morning fix. Youview box and the freesat hd built into my tv should be enough for the time being. Here is hoping that bt sports launches soon and at a decent price.

This was a known problem with 5.1 soundtracks. It was fixed by the last software update.

You may be able to download and install the software from the net or wait for the next rebroadcast and the box will do it itself.

Cool bud, I did a manual update and everything was up to date, I think 10.0.34, before I moved the box. Just out of interest does the box auto look for new software, I cant remember seeing the option in the settings.

I am looking forward to watching football focus today, I hope gareth crooks is going to be on form today. I will miss jeff and the boys.

YouView acknowledge there is a known fault, as you described, re the HD channels.
http://community.youview.com/youview...on_hd_channels
The latest (February) software has NOT cured the fault.
YouView emailed me the work-around solution, "toggle the AD (Audio Description) button on then off again". This removes the audio crackle on HD channels.

Yes, the box checks for new software during the early hours of the morning (via ethernet, not over-the-air). There is no menu adjustment to stop this. If you don't want the box to check and download over night, just remove the internet connection over night.

Hi. Can any of you who own a DTR T-1000 tell me whether Humax have retained the facility to save a specific section from the 2 hour buffer as a recording on this machine (and/or the DTR T-1010). Whilst I would normally assume it is there since that facility is on all their previous PVRs I get the impression from this thread that many facilities have not been retained and I have found that I use it quite a lot. Thanks in advance.

I would very much doubt that you will find this on the T-1000 or any other Youview machine made by Humax since the spec is very much tied to Youview; as opposed to Humax.

However, I'd be real interested to learn how you do this on an Humax HDR for example?

That's my suspicion too; and why I'm asking if an owner can advise me.

On my Humax 9150T, which I feel like I've had forever, You rewind back through the buffer to the point from which you wish to start the recording. Press the red dot record button on the remote control and it makes a recording from that point to the point at which the current programme ends, unless you instruct it to stop straight away in which case it records up to the current live transmission time. The User Guide for the Fox HDR T2 says that it does the same thing but the T-1000 user guide says nothing.

I'm looking for a new Freeview HDR to replace the 9150 and it's between the T-1000/T-1010 and the T2.

The Custom firmware for the HDR-FOX T2 also allows recordings to be trimmed digitally. My advice is if the catch up services are important to you then get a YouView box otherwise the HDR (which has BBC iPlayer) is a better PVR in many ways.

Ah right! I'll have to give that a try on my HDR...

Works fine, I've done it on my HDR Fox T2.

Thank you. Do you own a Youview?

Thanks Martin

Is there anyone out there who owns a YouView and can answer my question about recording from the buffer?

I realise that if the user guide says nothing about it; then it probably doesn't have it but confirmation from an owner would be much appreciated.

March software being rolled out from today. Details (such as they are) at the usual place.

No you cannot record from the buffer although this has, I believe, been suggested on the YouView forums.

From what I can gather, the hard drives on YouView boxes are formatted as if they were four separate drives. 30Gb is taken for three (apparently used for the buffer, "pushed" content and recording schedule data) with the rest being used for recordings off air.
