I'm not so sure about that, considering I have daughters older than that, and both they and I think Tabby is great.

His fans on here seem to be a good cross section of age groups.

I can see the reasoning but it's not safe to say that any of the remaining acts have a fan base in one particular generation IMO.

I'd agree with that. I'm 29, and my wife is 25 - we both think the kid's great and has a ton of potential. Our daughter (aged 8) prefers G4. But maybe that's cos they did a song from Disney.

Thanks once again for your earlier technical explanation of what Tabby is doing as regards the guitar playing. I have been amazed that anyone could fail to both see and hear which are the live breaks being played over the backing track. I can only assume these peopole have never been to a live gig. My daughter aged 30 was initially a Steve fan :eek ( I thought I had failed miserably as a parent) but soon realised her mistake Tabby's the one for us and the one in whom we see the greatest potential. We hope the exposure this show has given him will help to get him a foot in the door of the music industry.

Seriously mate, how can you listen to all of the musicians on here telling you that Tabby is playing live and still say he's pretending?

I don't play guitar but my brother does, and as a singer I'm always performing in public and seeing other people live - be they famous or not - and so have grown up in a musical environment, so to speak. I've been brought up with it. I can tell when people are singing and playing live - there are many tell-tale signs that give it away and the people on here have been trying to explain this to you throughout the three pages of this thread. They're musicians, they know what they're talking about.

However, you don't have to be a musician to know when someone is singing or playing live. Having seen all the performances I've seen, I know when someone is live. There's a certain sound quality, the movements matching the sounds etc. I can just tell.

AND TABBY HAS BEEN PLAYING THE GUITAR ON EVERY X FACTOR SHOW SO FAR. (Obviously apart from the ones where there hasn't been a guitar there, haha.)

So with everyone telling you you're wrong, why not bow out and admit it?

Even Tabby admitted on ITV2 that he did not play much live as he had laid them down for the backing soundtrack - so did not need to.

As I have previously stated, he strums a note or two only (or did last Saturday) when it was patently obvious he was not playing everything live ...

Which is probably why, to me, he looked so fake.

He doesn't "strum" any notes. The strumming is on the backing tape. He does the soloing live.

Histeria plays the guitar, I play guitar, my son plays guitar, loads of my friends play guitar - we are all quite capable of recognising when someone is playing live.

I think this argument is never going to end, if you don't think Tabby does play the guitar live, the only way to convince you is to sit you next to the stage when he is doing so.

Definite guitar sound and hand was nowhere near the strings ... it was admitted on ITV2 too (FACT) ..... he did not need to play all the time as he had already got his playing onto the sound track ...

To me, it's as obvious as the nose on my face, that, as discussed earlier - some of his guitar parts (just the boosted solos) are live.

Although I'd be interested as to why you think, given your viewpoint, the solo parts on the two performances of Living On a Prayer were slightly different (I pointed out where two differences were earlier in this thread)?

What happens in a three minute slot on Saturday night is not the fairest way to judge whether or not someone CAN play the guitar, he did play some live guitar on Saturday, as he has every other week. The tracks are laid down by him beforehand because of the nature of the performance, the fact that he lays them down himself is in no doubt, more evidence that he actually can play.

What are we at odds about here?

The fact that he does/doesn't play live.
The fact that he does/doesn't play everything live?
The fact that he does/doesn't lay down his own backing track?
Or the fact that he can/can't play at all?

It does seems were are all arguing variations of the same thing.

Anybody want to contest that::

1. He plays a little bit live (the odd squeal and solo here and there)
2. The rest of the guitaring is on tape.
3. Tabby doesn't bother to mime to those bits - or in a half-arsed fashion if he does.
4. The taped bits may (or may not) have been layed down by Tabby previously.
5. Tabby can probably play guitar well, but doesn't do much to demonstrate it on the show.
6. Braces wouldn't go amiss.
7. This is getting daft.

Tabby does not sing either - the audience do that - I hope Scabby gets the boot this weekend

For F****s sake, this is the most ridiculous thread I have had the misfortune to read - you must be visually impaired and hard of hearing if you cannot distinguish between the live breaks over the backing track. Histeria's view posted above is the fairest overview at this point in time.

OK he lays down tracks and plays some live.

In the confines of a three minute spot on a Saturday teatime tv show, the purpose is to give the best performance possible.

Tabby's team for whatever reason, have chosen to let Tabby lay down backing tracks and do some live playing. All of which he has said happens, so I don't see what the problem is, he's hardly denying anything, or claiming something else is happening.

The fact that he doesn't do a guitar solo lasting 5 minutes has something to do with the planning and production of the show. For further clarification I suggest you contact the shows producers.

Now we've established that, who wants to talk about his teeth/scabbiness/girlfriend/child/band/what he had for breakfast/can he ride a tandem?
