I am very confused. Tonight it almost looked like he was really playing... I think he might have been reading this and has practiced how to make it look more real?

Is this thread ever gonna stop? Have u not considered that the reason he looked like he was playing, is because he actually was???!!! I think he proved tonight that he CAN play the guitar, and that he DOES play it live!

Why all the other weeks he looked like de definatly couldn't play guitar. Tonight he looked like he finally might have the miming off pat, doesn't mean he's suddenly started playing.

I treally don't see what's so confusing about it. Just read Histeria's posts earlier in the thread. Tabby plays a few bars of the intro and a short lead fill in place of the solo. They are both performed live. Being a guitar player myself, this is easy to spot. As he's primarily demonstrating his vocal talents, and not his rhythm guitar abilities, you won't see him "strumming along" as some people seem to expect. However, from what I've seen of his lead guitar playing, he appears to be pretty talented in that department too.

He's using a wireless transmitter system, just a bit larget than a packet of fags. You can't see very clearly where its plugged in because on the Les Paul model guitar he uses the input socket is on the edge and it's probably plugged in with a right angled patch cord, so the cable jack won't stick out much. The particular guitar he used tonight (and on several other occasions) is a copy of Zakk Wylde's 'bullseye' Les Paul and has EMG pickups and active tone circuits which give it a very distictive tone. It was definately him playing that guitar, live on the show.

Thanks for the info wickerman, but it wont make a difference to most of the people on this thread! Histeria tried to get em to believe Tabby was playing, but nothing seems to change their minds!

Yeah I've read it and he mimes his vocal talent too.

Wicker man knows his guitar but seem unable or unwilling to see how much Tabby is not playing his guitar. He had it looking better tonight but since he already showed how badly he can do it find it hard to believe he was playing tonight.

That U2 cover was so clearly not a mime. He's got a good voice. End of story.

Thanks, but I did say that he only played (live) a couple of bars at the start and the (short) lead break, so he wasn't actually playing his guitar *much* during the song, but he did play it a bit. I can't comment on whether he recorded any of the backing track.

To mime lead guitar breaks convincingly would be quite a skill - one which would probably require the talents of someone who could actually play the piece in the first place. This is yet another indicator that his guitar fills were performed live.

After reading all the posts in here I think that the general concensus and the democratic judgement is that Tabby doesn't play the guitar...

IT'S OFFICIAL!!

Yes! That's exactly what my husband (who also plays guitar) said. My husband also noticed that he bent the strings when playing the solo the second time he played the song, which he didn't do the first time round.

I have no reason to be biased because I'm not a follower of this show and couldn't care who won. My husband is even less of a fan as he scoffs at RTV acts because he says they are not real musicians but even he said that Tabby was good and that he definitely showed he has excellent guitar skills.

I think you are all missing the point here. It is not whether he is playing the guitar or not but SO WHAT!
It is a sad indictment that in a modern arena for musicians to prove their worth we argue if they are playing an instrument. Isn't that what musicians do? So why is it so great if he does ply, that is what he is trying to do as his trade. You don't get people hiring an electrician to rewire their house and say, wow this guy was great he actually did some of the electrical work himself, live!! (Or maybe earth or neutral)
From what I have seen even if he is playing it is very little and quite unimpressive anyway, something any guitarist with a little experience could master.
As for him being a lead singer, do you not need a band to qualify for that position? Never heard of a lead singer fronting a solo act before.

Err....the thread is titled "Tabby doesn't play the guitar!" if I'm not mistaken.

I quite agree. However, some posters were trying to discredit him from playing his instrument by saying that he was miming. That's like saying your electrician couldn't wire a plug.

Do you play guitar? OK, he's not Jimmy Page or Dave Gilmour, and he didn't try to do anything too flashy, but his guitar playing was not the main aspect of his performance. I think that what he did worked in the song, and added some originality to the arrangement.

Ermm big Ermm. Point here, you over there in the corner not looking at point. What i am saying is that it is EXPECTED of a person in any trade to be able to apply that trade. So it should not be an issue that it is a great thing that he does play the guitar. So what, a taxi driver drives a car, an accountant does your books an actor acts. So what is so impressive about a musician playing a musical instrument. You should find no satisfaction with your argument to simply say he does play, he is expected to play. So if people belive he is miming and all you can say is well no he plays a bit, your argument has failed. You should simply ignore those people and laugh quietly in the corner at their ignorance. I don't give a hoot if he plays it or not, it is a game show that is trying to produce a cabaret act. So if he came out riding an emu and playing a small dog like a piano I would be like, yeah cool it's TV and it is 1970's variety.
and boy you really like quoting don't you.

Oh and I also play amean tune on a brass monkey now and again, it loves the attention.

What would have been proof to everyone, is that bit in the middle where guitar is played and no singing ..... the camera should have let us viewers seen that close up

But what happened ..... the camera angle (both times) was showing Tabby from behind .....

I don't think anybody is disputing that he can play some guitar, but probably not that good .....
