You Tube on the iPad (3)

I note some vid clips on my main computer, at the bottom of the screen shows "cc" (U.S. closed captions U.K. subtitles) but this facility does not appear on the iPad.

I wonder why this is? Can't be anything to do with the iPads not having Flash can it as the vids work ok on both the computer which does have Flash whilst the Pad doesn't?

I have an iPod touch. To get closed captions I touch settings > video > enable closed captioning. The iPad is bound to be similar?

Yes, similar settings on the iPad but makes no difference

Yep, I tried it out when I got home, even though a video has CC they don't appear even when you enable that setting.

Indeed that's strange. Is there a way of informing Apple of this problem in case they're not aware of this?

I wouldn't worry about it for now.

Apple's YouTube app is being removed in iOS 6 and YouTube / Google are creating their own app which will be available in the app store after the release of iOS 6.

Apple probably stopped work on their YouTube app some time ago as their licence to include it in iOS ends this year.

As for in-browser support for closed captions, the native iOS video player is used for in-browser content and this does support closed captions, so it would be a case of the video streams served to iOS devices not containing the data which rests on YouTube's side.

There is a new version of the player coming soon that may or may not support CC
