Overused quotes in DS Movie forums

Too many plot holes
Not as clever as it thinks it is
Overrated
Overhyped
Far too prententious
All the best bits are in the trailer

Any more?

"Well, that's your opinion" as an attempt to belittle someone.

Of course it's their opinion. Who else's would it be?

However out of all the hundreds of times I have seen this there have only been about 3 examples where the poster has actually known what they are talking about. Someone described Spiderman 3 as overrated on here once. Also I will never understand how a film can be pretentious. What makes a film pretentious? A Tree of Life fine. But summer blockbusters pretentious?

"The film was full of plot holes"

Strangely this phrase is never followed by examples of the plot holes hmmmm. Also when they are given they are very rarely plot holes. Asking how Bane returned to Gotham in The Dark Knight Rises is NOT a plot hole!!! It just isn't shown.

So can you understand how a film can be pretentious or not? Because you just said you will never understand it, then go on and say A tree of Life fine, as if that is acceptable to be called pretentious

Under rated is another one used quite a bit, but to be honest over and under rated are just personal opinions (basically them saying "I don't think it is as good as everyone is making it out to be" or "I think this is brilliant but no one seems to agree") and since everyone is allowed one of them on here then I let it slide

The phrases I hear most on these threads are:

Cinema is way too expensive
Cinema food is way too expensive
People eating food in Cinemas are annoying
I fell asleep
and
3D is rubbish.

Haha!! I should have been more clear. I don't understand what makes a film summer blockbusters or big films like Avatar pretentious. Films such as the Tree of Life where it is all very "What is life? Who am I? Where am I? Why am I here? What is is this twig on the ground? Is it me?" I understand but what makes Kick Ass (yes someone called Kick Ass pretentious) pretentious or self-indulgent (another phrase that kicks around a lot)? Heck even Doctor Who is considered as pretentious on the DS boards!!!

I hate overrated. It means "I am right you are all wrong".

We will just have to agree to disagree on this I suppose how you interpret it really isn't it.

But I feel less like I am being told I am wrong when someone states a film is overrated, than say when someone will say sigh and then tell me what I have opined is wrong.

"This was a crap film" also seems to be a very common phrase. Or something similar to that

I use IMHO or "just my opinion" waaa-aaay to much.
But that's only so that I don't get assaulted by some of the hate-mongers out there.

I made a comment on one forum (not DS) about how I did not enjoy "Amazing Spider-man".
Got some replies "You must have enjoyed it!" , or "U R just wrong. You have no brains".
... and I expected more from my sister!

Just kidding. But I do despair. Those quotes are real (My sister isn't). Can't have a personal opinion apparently ...

*gets off soap-box and slopes off to care-home*

I do dislike that one, but I also dislike the opposite too "This film was brilliant" just because there was no explanation to it, no reasons for it being one or the other at least give one reason why you thought this

Edit: having said that I am probably guilty of this at times when I am lazy.

I often think if we got signatures on here, I would put "the above is my opinion and only my opinion please don't think of it as fact or a statement of fact it is only what I feel"

Any good horror movies?

It wasn't that scary.

I knew exactly how it'd end after watching the first five minutes.

I hate remakes / Leave the original alone!

There're no original stories any more.

James Cameron is a genius/visionary.

Most least liked: "Am I the only one who...?"

Oh, yes. You're definitely the only one.

Not a quote as such, but there are far too many people on this site who simply don't know how to respect other peoples opinions. The site has gone downhill in the last few months and there seems to be more people than ever looking to pull down others for their views or opinions.

The many variants of these two spring to mind:

I hate CGI! It's always so fake and I can always tell a mile away!

Hmm, really? Also...

The film ruined it! (book, comic etc) What they should've done is...(prattles on in deluded, clearly impractical, wish-fulfilment fanboy mode for several eons).

Too true. So many people seem to take a criticism towards a film they like as a personal attack on them.

Overrated is used far, far too much, and manages to make its way into any negative discussion thread (i.e. "what films do you think are pretentious?" basically turned into yet another thread full of people bashing popular films that had disappointed them).

In a similar vein, "Twilight" manages to make its way into any negative discussion where it's barely relevant - don't get me wrong, there's A LOT wrong with this franchise, but overrated? How? It's remarkably popular with a certain demographic but is universally panned by critics. Again, this was called up for being pretentious, and again, how? Say what you like about these films, but they don't exactly hide about the fact that they're a painfully shallow and unoriginal vampire offering aimed at pre-treens.

LOOK! It's come up AGAIN
