Foxsat LNB Loop Through

Does the LNB loop through work when the box is in standby mode, or does it have to be switched on?

It certainly won't work in deep standby, but does in normal standby.

Despite what the manual says, the reverse appears to be the case. I haven't tried it but other reports indicate loop through works in low power sby but not with low power sby disabled. I will dig out a seperate box sometime and check.

Yep, loop through works here for me on low power stand by but turns off when the HDR boots into life.

What happens if you turn of low power sby and put the box in sby ?. You should get some channels with the box booted (same frequency band and polarisation as tuner 1 is using).

Hi Graham, I’m not much of an experimenter when it comes to fiddling so I will decline your suggestion.

My HDR, like yours has it’s forth birthday coming up later in the year and it’s been very reliable so would hate to upset anything. I know changing things like that should not cause hick ups but I say let the sleeping dogs lay.

I vary rarely use the Freesat tuner in the TV though that may changed when or if Freesat gets more HD channels than Freeview then the experiments will start or I will take the trouble to run another lead to the dish.

Thanks for your comments.

The reason I ask the question is that I use the Foxsat on a boat, using a 12v inverter, and I am thinking about adding a simple (non pvr) Freesat player in order to reduce the power consumption while watching live TV. I don't really want the h/d running all the time, unless recording of course.

I know I can connect the (new) box directly, but this would reduce the Foxsat to single LNB operation, which is a bit of a waste of resources.

Are you saying that if the Foxsat is in standby and switches on to record, the loopthrough is broken?

Change the lnb on the dish for a quad one and you can use each independently.

You need to understand how a lnb works, each element of a lnb is controlled by the tuner it's directly connected to. The tuner switches the lnb into receiving horizontal or vertical transponders by changing the DC voltage it outputs (12/18V) and between high and low frequency by adding a 22Khz ac tone for the high frequency band (4 combinations in all).

When off the lnb1 out socket simply connects the looped box to the lnb as if the hdr was not there.

The Foxsat is designed to allow twin tuner working with a single lnb, connecting tuner 1 out to tuner 2 in on the box allows twin tuner recording with some restrictions as to 2n'd channel recording (you need a factory reset if you change the connections). If you connect a 2nd box to tuner 1 out while the hdr is on or recording then this will only be able to access the same channels as tuner 2 would be if connected to the loop.

If you don't want to change the lnb, connect the cable currently used to feed tuner 2 to the second box and connect tuner 1 out to tuner 2 in on the hdr. Reset the hdr to recognise the connection change.

For more info re what you can do using one cable see here.

What you can do is postcode dependant.

For instance, with a Northern postcode you can record both BBC1-HD, BBC-HD and watch any of the other HD channels (and live pause) using only a single connection to the lnb.

Graham, many thanks for sorting this one out for me. I am unable to change the LNB because it is in a tracking sat dome (I am lucky to have a dual fitted).

I will do as you suggest as this will also allow me to switch off the power to the tracker (once aligned) and save another couple of amps.

Cheers.
