vpn recommendations?

Can anyone recommend a good, fast, vpn with UK based servers?

I've only ever had experience with free vpns and the way they destroy your internet speed...was unpleasant. I hear paid for ones though let you surf as though all was normal and the vpn wasn't there?

I'm going to be working in China in a few months so....Yeah. A bit scared of surfing openly and random site blocks and all that!

Overplay and Unblock-US are pretty good, but are not UK based. Cost is around £3.20 a month for each.

Hotspot Shield is good though not UK based. Unlike UltraSurf it doesnt hide your location. Rather changes it to a location in California. Just got 2.37 MB down which is slow but certainly fast enough for standard def video streaming

Watching iplayer would be a secondary benefit, hence the need for a uk one

Anyone know of any good summaries out there of different ones?

I have used these guys with no issue. Not a UK based company but you can connect to a UK based server

I use www.ibvpn.com to access stuff geoblocked in the US, it's an acceptable speed I guess dependent on which server you're using.

I use StrongVPN and have done so for the last year, so far in South Africa, the USA, the Caribbean and mainland Europe.

Cost me $50 for a year, they have servers all over the world (I only use a UK one for iPlayer and Sky Go) and, importantly, they have good customer service with tech guys available to chat online.

You've had more than one recommendation based on experience rather than a Google search. What more do you want?
