Virus

is there a PC virus which damages hardware?

Which hardware in particular? I seriously doubt it.

The only way would be very customised to get into your bios, disable the fans and temp warnings, then make the cpu/gpu overheat. But even then you would just get BSOD.

certainly it could reduce the life of your components. but spontaneously destroy them. no.

Thanks, My brother in law told me his PC guy told him a virus had damaged an internal piece of hardware.
Not quite sure which component I will call him today and re post.

If the PC guy cant tell your in law what the virus was called, then they are talking bull. Oh and are lying and incompetent too.

I heard of one years ago that used to flash random bytes to the BIOS until it got bricked....

No idea what it was called though

There is a virus which eats your hard drive. I remember reading about it on Hotmail...

Get as much info as possible from the 'PC Guy' and post it back here, just for our amusement.
