How do you know five are looking for ratings of 250,000?
If ratings keep increasing then five should see that it is getting more popular! |

I emailed Five about Sunset Beach recently, as with Trisha taking the 9.30 slot and The Wright Stuff moving on to 10.30 I wondered where it would fit in from January.
They told me no firm plans have yet been set but it will continue to to be broadcast 5 days a week as it is now. They also say that although Trisha is getting the 9.30 slot no firm decision has been made on The Wright Stuff although that is staying too. Personally I can see Sunset Beach going out in the 2.30 timeslot after Brainteaser where I can see it picking up a fair few viewers, it has little competition there, where love it or loathe it This Morning will always be on top! |

Oh i didn't know it had been confirmed where Trisha would go already, when i emailed them a couple of weeks ago they said it had not been decided.
I would rather SB stay at 10:30 but if it has to move then so be it. So long as its not to a ridiculous time like a time that clashes wtih the primetime soaps! 2:30pm would be OK i suppose. Id still prefer midday or ealier though. Trisha 9:30, The Wright Stuff 10:30, SB 11:30 would be good, or even just sandwiching SB in between the 2 therefore leaving it where it is

If 5 move SB to the afternoons it will pick up some viewers, but a lot of the people I know who watch it are mothers who will be leaving the house to pick up their kids from school at around 3pm. Whether these people will bother to watch half an episode, whilst finding their shoes, car keys etc is anyones guess.

Perhaps Five should start treating SB like their other soaps - they constantly cross promote Family Affairs and Home & Away but SB is rarely mentioned, it also has no minisite on Five.tv, and isn't mentioned on the Soaps page on Five Text. I have a feeling that SB is/was just being used as a filler until they managed to get Trisha.
If the worst happens and they decide there's no room for SB in their daytime schedule, maybe they could even get rid of the weekday showings, and show it as an omnibus on Saturday afternoons. The omnibus always used to perform better in the ratings than the weekday showings. Since schedules are planned weeks in advanced, i'm sure by now Five at least have an idea of what's going to happen to SB. Whatever happens, I hope they continue to show it. It would be unfair on all us loyal viewers if they didn't. |

I have just been having a look on the BARB site at Five's top 30 shows, and from 24/01/99 SB's highest rating was 1.08million but it got 0.34 million on its first showing, and 0.74 on its second showing.

and in the week ending 26/07/98, it got 0.79million but all it says there is Fri/Sat so it must be for both showings again.
So it does like like its ratings increased as time progressed so hopefully it will do the same again

they should have Sunset beach in the 4.30pm -5.30pm slot and start the films at 2.30pm as it is a time when there is only Aplace in the Sun and kids programmes are on or as you say he 2.30pm slot.

If Five think it is worth showing again, then it is worth promoting.
