Hi Cowie! Always lovely to hear from you. Your long distance support goes above and beyond the call of duty. I've worked out who you are in the FB group now so that's the full set of regulars identified!
Twitter has been AWFUL tonight. Someone explain the psychology to me of people who put the nastiest things they can contrive on twitter in the hope of upsetting someone they have never met? No, on second thoughts, they are just morons.

The transgenderzone interview has a kind of 'ultimate' feel to it, for anyone interested in transgender experiences, but probably not worth putting on the DS forum, at least not in the middle of a CBB. I should think people would have a fit if I linked to a 2.5 hour interview.

Is anyone entering the 'make a video' competition on facebook? I haven't got a clue. I only discovered that my camera has a video function when the competition was announced and I asked someone. I haven't the least idea how to edit a video or upload it and I can't imagine who would take part in one. I haven't given up though. I think it would be good for me to try even if it is abysmal.
I don't think it's any coincidence that Luke's recent downbeat mood has coincided with all the latest abuse on Twitter and elsewhere. Or maybe he's just turning to us more for help and reassurance. I'm rarely on Twitter and I'm certainly not one of the troll hunters. I wish we could help him find a more positive way to deal with these idiots rather than just wading in and giving them something to laugh at. All that on top of his very nasty run in with the Daily Mail, which must have left him doubting who to trust. I've tried telling him to give Twitter a break and spend some time just having fun but I can't make him listen if he doesn't want to.

I haven't had chance to start on the Transgenderzone interviews apart from the first teaser. As it's split into chapters at least you can pick and choose what you want to hear. I should think anyone who liked Luke on BB would enjoy finding out more about what makes him tick. Maybe it's one for the Uncharted Wasteland thread.

From what I can tell from others' comments, the interview shows his willingness to be so candid and open that marks him out as an excellent spokesman for the trans community. I finally got hold of my copy of the Transliving magazine today, such a beautifully written insight into his life and dilemmas. He really does need to keep the courage of his convictions and believe that he has the skills to take this message forward. Lucas had the wonderful idea of him doing a university lecture tour, I could see that going down brilliantly with the student unions' LGBT groups.

I have no way of entering the video contest even if I wanted to! I'm not one for competitions at the best of times but it's yet another thing where I don't have the ability, inclination or inspiration to get involved. So that's another mark against my reputation (even if that reputation's entirely in my own head) of being the boring sensible one who never gets involved in the fun stuff. Oh well!

What happened with the Daily Mail?
Luke's wife gave an interview to Closer magazine about their relationship and went into some details about their sex life. Luke judged the results not too bad but there were some inaccuracies in it. The Daily Mail then reprinted the story but exaggerated the inaccuracies to the point of being libellous, especially saying he wanted phalloplasty on the NHS, which he doesn't. He had a bit of a battle with the thief - sorry, journalist - to get that bit removed and was furious that they'd printed the story without his permission or knowledge. Daily Mail readers being Daily Mail readers, they weren't exactly open minded to learning about Luke's unconventional lifestyle. I would quite like a pound for every use of the phrase "too much information".

I've just been reading through it all now and I'm really shocked at the vindictiveness and nastiness. It's really depressing .

Upload your video on to the computer and then download Microsoft windows movie maker to edit it, add special effects, music ect and it allows you to upload it straight onto you tube. It's really easy to use but if you need any help you can ask me

Thanks for finding that. I've taken the liberty of posting it on the FB group as nobody else had.

Wow, even that snippet is really powerful stuff. Exactly the kind of candour I was hoping he would provide somewhere, somehow. 2.5 hours is going to be a bit of a haul though. I'll have to listen to that in chunks, I can't devote all that time to hear it in one go.

Yes, the names chat was funny. When you think about how important our names are to our identity, not many people do what Luke had to and choose their own. I always assumed it was a Star Wars reference but maybe it was just that it tripped nicely off the tongue. Better than Laura Anderson, I must admit.
I'm sorry I've only just seen this post, you're welcome . It's in about 10 parts so it's easy to listen to in small doses. it's very interesting and I think the nmae was inspired by star wars as well as the film "cool hand Luke" .

I don't do it at all. The random idiots just want attention and I don't want to give them any, and the more personal stuff from the other night really needed MQ to block more than anything (I think Luke already had). There are one or two people who REALLY need to let things go though. You don't join a private group, deride them outside it, then get filled with rage and hate when you find you are no longer in the group.
wish we could help him find a more positive way to deal with these idiots rather than just wading in and giving them something to laugh at.
He knows. I think with that lot the other night he just walked away and blocked them. He was VERY unlucky with the Mail: they almost never do non celeb BB related stories at all, but at present seem to be having a vicious campaign against transgender people being entitled to NHS treatment, so an inaccurate Luke and Becki story was manna to them.
I've just been reading through it all now and I'm really shocked at the vindictiveness and nastiness. It's really depressing .
I thought so too. Horrible to read that kind of thing about yourself.

Thanks. Though I started off with ideas and no clue how to achieve them, and now that you have suggested a way all the ideas seem to have gone and my brain feels totally empty.

I listened to couch potatoes until about 1.10 last night and thought he was coming across perfectly.

Hi everyone

I haven't been on here for AGES! It's lovely to see this appreciation group still going so strong. I still follow Luke closely on Twitter and I'm impressed by how kind and lovely he is to his fans. The abuse he gets is awful though; it's saddening to still see so much ignorance about transexuality.

I listened to Luke on Couch Potatoes as well last night and thought he came across very well.

Hello Shot Marvin 1. I agree with everything you say.

And hello and welcome to Parker Leveson as well. I had to google Michael Owen, so in touch with popular cuture I am, but having done so agree that he would be a refreshing addition to BBOTS.

Oh dear. My ignorance of the world of sport is literally bottomless. When I used to play Trivial Pursuit I had to have special hand-written questions for the sports rounds because otherwise I could never have won.

It must be, they really wanted to harm Luke and other people .

Welcome back ShotMarvin1 I agree he was really good on couch potatoes, I hope he gets a regular slot on the show.

Yes. Not the young feller, but some of it was very calculated and nasty.

Aaaagh at the This Morning interview being cancelled because they don't like Big Brother. Considering that the picture at the top of their website appears to be Jeff Brazier, they can hardly pretend to be above that kind of thing.

Not liking BB would be a pretty feeble excuse, seeing how they've single-handedly kept Allison Hammond in work since 2002. Not to mention having Brian Dowling on to promote each series including the latest one. I can't help feeling there's something a bit more dodgy about this cancellation which they're not prepared to admit. The FB ding-dong following their interview last week with Best (the trans teen who wanted to look like Harry Styles from One Direction) was extremely unpleasant and could well have given them cold feet about tackling a second trans story within a fortnight.

True. But that makes it worse because Luke and Becki are so obviously happy together and happy with the way Luke has ended up that it would have made the idiots who obsessed over Harry Styles (who had nothing to do with Best's story, but hardly anyone seemed to understand that) think again. It's not as if the media are awash with secure, contented f to m transgender people.

Yes it would have been a happy slant to put on the subject. I mentioned that when I left my comment on the This Morning Hub page (even if nobody else could read it!) Theirs is such an encouraging love story that would give lots of hope to transgendered people who think they're condemned to a life of loneliness. That could well have been a big reason why C4 were so keen to get him on My Transsexual Summer. The one thing missing in that show was anyone in a stable relationship. Of course equally I can see why Luke ran a mile when they insisted on filming his wedding. Not being out to his inlaws, that would have been very awkward!

Yeah, timing was all wrong for him. Still, BB was a better substitute as it turned out. I had to count the months since the final three times last night before I could believe it. It feels like a year ago.

To be honest I don't think that it has anything at all to do with Big Brother. I think it's some low level researcher/producer or whoever finds the 'ordinary' people for their interviews who picked this up from the magazine and didn't realise that Luke had already been on the TV so as far as they are concerned it's not a new story so they're not interested. I don't know how you get through to them that it's more of a story because MORE people will be interested. I was on the point of taking a day's holiday to watch Luke and Becki but hesitated because they were only 'pencilled in'. I'm so pleased I didn't waste a day's holiday now.

Yes, I am sure you're right. Though it seems far more idiotic to turn down a good story because someone in it has been on BB than to do a poor story because someone in it has been on BB. I do despise the popular media sometimes. How many times has Chantelle sold the same seedy story in the last 18 months?

I really don't get the fuss about twitter. Must be every publicists nightmare. So many celebs get themselves in trouble on there. It's almost like anyone who uses it just turns into a dick pretty much straight away.

Wow. Luke's a headline in the New Statesman. That's some achievement.

Certainly a bit classier than the usual post-BB coverage. First the Independent on Sunday, now New Statesman. I would say that the only way is up, but I dont think there is any up to go to.

And now with the Alan Titchmarsh show, looks as if Luke has become one of the main go-to people (Paris Lees looks like the other one) the media turn to if they want a transgender person to comment on a story.
