I think he was literally not in the room. There was quite an early split between insiders and outsiders, except that Deana wasn't really in either group. I think at that stage she really wanted to hang out with the other girls, but they wouldn't accept her. It took a kind of change in attitude for her to think it would be nicer to sit with the two older men outside, even though they had no interest in clothes or make up or whatever girly stuff was being discussed in the bedroom. It must have seemed to Luke and Adam that Deana was generally part of the bedroom group; they weren't to know that a lot of her part was being snubbed by them.
I take your point but I still think Luke was so nice he didn't expect people to be nasty to others. It's strange when you consider how much abuse he has had to put up with on twitter, although perhaps it all really comes from one person with a series of fake accounts. I believe Aaron had a similar one.

It's only really took off in the last 12 months or so, it's like an online scrapbook. Luke's just got a few BB pics on there at the moment, not his more flattering stuff.

He's also joined Skillpages which is a FB app for freelance workers. He's got his cheffing skills listed on there so it looks like he's back on the job market looking for cookery work.

That's brilliant. I've seen some of the pics he's put on twitter and read about some of his creations in the BB house, which of course they never showed us because they thought we weren't interested - EPIC FAIL!!!! - if you really like someone, you're interested in all the things they're good at - and Luke obviously is a very good chef. Plus often the day-to-day stuff in BB is what really gives you an insight into what makes someone tick. Sometimes I think Channel 5 don't understand the appeal of Big Brother at all - it's learning about someone's character and what made them the person they are.

There's a lot more to Luke than an ex-BB winner. He deserves a very bright future and hopefully this is a step forward towards it

It's very encouraging, isn't it? Some serious kitchen-time will do him the power of good and take his mind off all the bad stuff.

He deserves to get a really good job and I wish him every success. I wonder if the Hotel he worked at doesn't need him any more or perhaps he doesn't want to go back?

I'm pretty sure he didn't want to go back. It was probably for the best, there were a lot of post-BB appearances at nightclubs etc to get out of the way and to be honest he deserved a break after being in BB.

I've also noticed our Luke has wandering feet. He seems to enjoy moving from job to job and never seems to have stayed in one place that long.

Val's right too, getting a bit of kitchen time in will do him the power of good.

Thank you! I hope he gets the job of his dreams and soon, as I feel he needs something to occupy his mind at the moment.

Yep I would love to be getting updates of where he's working and pictures of the culinary creations he's made. Imagine being able to go to a restaurant or pub and know Luke had cooked the meal. It'd be like one of those scenes in the movies - please can we have the chef out here to congratulate him?

Ooh, I've gone all of a-quiver just thinking about it

Just a little snippet for anyone who's interested. I've been reading back the beginning of the First Appreciation Thread. There's room for oodles of discussion on the comments just on the first couple of pages. Makes very interesting reading.

At this point, I must point out, that I did not join at the beginning for which I continue to desperately beg forgiveness - but I LOVE Luke now, so that counts for something, surely

The first forum thread about Luke, just after he walked into the house, was one titled 'Luke used to be a girl!' Most of it is positive stuff, saying things like "Well, now he is a good looking bloke". But there is this odd one from supersarahp:

do you think he made it up to get into the house?

And this remarkably sensible and informed post from a FM called flashwilson, who I don't remember at all:

Er, everyone, I know this is entertainment but can we take a step back for a mo?

If he has been living as male & is transitioned, then he IS male... It is none of our business what his genitals look like. It is hard for trans people as it is, without complete strangers thinking they have a right to see what your bits look like.

In any case I have trans friends who had the surgery and trans friends who didnt. So what? They are them. They are valid people. They dont need me to look at their bits and pass judgement.

I know trans people are a sensation for the tabloids but please take a step back and realise that we are all human beings... If people want to share more info later then fine, but we should not demand it, or judge upon it, or require it.

My trans friends have a hard enough life as it is. They have put themselves through ridicule, judgement, and often major surgery. It is not done light heartedly.

Yes this is entertainment on tv but the least we can do is respect the many sacrifices that trans people have made, just to be, and take the trans contestant as seriously as the others. Would you be discussing the genital configurations of other contestants?
Ah, I see that flashwilson doesn't post on the BB forum really, so she obviously just spotted this topic and tried to jump in before there were a lot of ill informed posts full of nonsense. If only people had listened to her. While I am being stalkerish (but it is all in her public profile) she is on twitter a lot as @techiebabe, and sounds generally like a good egg.

Wow, that's fascinating Wonkey.

I must admit my first reaction when my sons were discussing Luke in BB was - are you sure that he's the transgender one? (I missed around of a third of the first few weeks' programmes because I wasn't getting in from work until 9.10 pm). I'm now trying to convince myself that it was a compliment to Luke really

It has struck me that if Luke hadn't said that and (this would not have been a very tasteful idea, but still) people had had to guess which of the housemates had been born female, it wouldn't have been easy at all. I mean you wouldn't have guessed Adam, and would have felt very sorry for a female Conor, but apart from that...

I'm sure you are right. Equally, I know people have criticised Luke here on DS for making a song and dance about telling everyone from the off. To be fair though, it was Channel 5 that chose to show all the footage and Luke had no choice but to tell them. The difficulties of showering and using the toilet in the house which is so open never mind going swimming and showing the scars on his chest meant that he had to tell them as soon as possible. If I were to encounter that situation in my life now I would be a whole lot less shocked than I used to be and I'm sure a lot of other people feel the same way. He worked wonders for getting the message across that transgender people are just people and deserve to be treated as individuals not mocked or isolated.

Again he got a lot of stick for the way he approached it but people forget that the reactions he got in the house were different from those who would encounter in a more usual work or leisure environment. He has talked about hearing workmates sniggering behind his back when he first started transitioning and that must have been so hard to deal with.

He's been through a lot in his life - including the Big Brother experience with all its ups and downs. Now I hope he is looking forward to a brighter future. He deserves it. It's a shame it looks as if that won't be with Becki but I'm sure we all wish her all the luck in the world for her future too

You've prompted me to look back at the first part of this thread and it looks like Luke broke WD four week curse . My first post was following the task where the HM's had to pick their favourite HM and I mistakenly presumed that Caroline's choice was Luke A not Luke S, after she described him as a talented chef.

I hope that wasn't a serious suggestion but at least if it is, it shows that Luke changed people's perceptions of trans people and I'll have to follow @techiebabe .

Ooh. Let's keep everything crossed that whoever it is doesn't do a ridiculous Good Morning and 'discover' that he has been on Big Brother.

Ooh good point hula. I read it but thought it was a reference to the Dorset food show although I'm not sure why he would refer to that as a cooking programme. I hope it is something else too

I see Luke's agent has joined his facebook group. Nice to see her getting involved. It looks as if he has finally found an agent who is actually interested in finding him work which is great. He definitely has the characteristics needed for a career involving interacting with members of the public whether personal appearances or on TV - who wouldn't be captivated by that smile and he has the most gorgeous speaking voice as well as being capable of keeping his language under control for public appearances.

Me too! I wouldn't mind betting that whichever restaurant he became the chef would see an increase in patrons!

Oh lawks, sorry about the noise, that's just me banging my head on the wall. I've just seen Luke's new agent refer to him as LukeA. For someone who has run a one-woman campaign to remind all and sundry (including Luke himself) that his name is Luke this is most disheartening.

(carries on banging head on wall)
