Why did they reject Madge Bishop?

I heard Madge Bishop was on the line up. As a main character from a popular soap, I'm surprised she wasn't accepted. Does anyone know why?

Perhaps she gave it further consideration and changed her mind.

In the 80s, Neighbours was the UK's most popular soap. She came back in the mid-90s and only left a few years ago.

Surely most people from all generations know of Madge Bishop. She was due to enter the jungle but didn't make the line up. Instead, they chose people like Huggy, Sheila and Fran.

i was being flippant, over her ill fated appearance on crossroads, although neighbours has never been britains most popular show ,it did attract large audiences in the late 80's and early 90's, i think in the region of of about 15-16 million when the likes of corrie and eastenders were pulling in 20million plus.

i think i read the other day that neighbours now attracts something like 2-3 million,is that right?
