Sky News & The Olympics!

Hi All,

I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this and feel the same way as me... But...

A number of times since the olympics started they will interupt important news items to tell us that so-and-so has one something in the Olympics.

I don't think this is right! Yes, very good that someone representing Britain is doing well but I don't think they need to pull away from news items about a missing 12 year old girl to tell us!

It's very, very annoying!!

No, it isn't. It is quite right given the circumstances. Anyone who is annoyed can go and read a book.

These are good days to bury bad news.

It is a bit overkill the amount of news-time that is being given over to this. Particularly as the vast majority of the sports we are winning in, the vast majority of the nation couldn't give a rats ass about outside of the Olympics & I imagine around 50% of the nation don't care about during the Olympics either.

Well done to them & all that but there is other stuff going on in the world that it would be nice to hear about as-well.

I know where you're coming from as it can be a bother to viewers who are not actually following the olympics. The Sky Sports News Channel naturally will bring the updates and alerts.

That said, not everybody has this channel. Sky News is a 24 news channel, unlike your 30 minute slot on itv where you normally wait till the end for the sports news.

As it is a big in the world calendar, they are likely to be relaying alerts of any breaking news - if say GB have won a gold medal.

Just take it in your stride and accept it as the norm for the next couple of weeks or so.

BBC News slays Sky anyway. Don't know why anyone would tune into Sky for Olympics News, be it Sky News or SSN. Sky would be better off running non Olympic News for the duration.

Wasn't that implied in the OP. They didn't tune in for Olympic news. They tuned in for other/regular news and were annoyed that it was interrupted to give Olympic updates.

I'm not complaining about how much coverage it is getting, I'm just saying they should wait until the end of the current news item, especially if it is about a murder or missing child or Syria until they talk about it.

Or even if they put it up on their ticker tape. They could make sky news a 24 hour olympic channel for all I care, as long as I can find somewhere to hear the actually important news from around the world.
