Favourite PS1 Final Fantasy game?
I thought this might provide an interesting topic of debate. I ask this because my personal favourite is IX, my brothers is VIII and the most popular always appears to be VII.
For me personally, I'd rank them IX, VIII then VII. IX was just wonderful, from the more vibrant characters to the wonderfully simple battle system. Not that there was anything really wrong with the Junction System in VIII. Materia I found strangely difficult to get to grips with. For the purposes of fairness, I'll add VI to the poll as well, as it did have a PS1 release. |

FFVII excelled in pretty much all aspects IMO, as a complete package it has never been beaten since.

As mentioned 1 and 2 along with 4 and 5 had PS1 releases so you should of left six of the list and just had an opinion poll on the games originally released on PS1, as you say it will be interesting to see peoples opinion though and mine our pretty strong
I'll start with the worst FFVIII, since a few weeks after release i have called this the worst game i have ever played (XII came close) and i stand by that, it had so much potential coming off the heals of FFVII but in almost every aspect it is just horrible and over complicated When you have the official guide and read a page several times over and still do not have a clue what any of it means that is just bad Not to mention and i'm getting in to spoilers here but considering we are talking about PS1 games and the PS3 is out i think its ok to freely mention spoilers, the entire game is a time loop meaning that no matter how you played the game and not matter what you did during it the ending was would of been the same anyway as the events have take place an infinate number of times before and will take place an infinite number of times afterwards so you have achieved nothing FFXI i borrowed this of a friend as after VIII i didn't want to pay for another FF game at the time, my feelings aren't as strong as VIII in fact i don't really feel anything for the game i got to the end of the third disk and my PS3 broke i wasn't even bothered that i had lost my save and i haven't gone back since in is just so.... nothing FFVII, WOW my favourite game of all time (although recently each of the uncharted games came close to replacing it) what a fantastic game, there is so much to it every single part is amazing, what i love is you can finish the game going from A to B and you will probably only of experienced about 50% of the story the game has to offer and i don't just mean the secret characters i mean how talking to certain NPC's with different characters in your party will result in different story developments - in short i could list hundreds of reason i love the game but i'll simply say to me it is perfect |

Though I must say, I think VI deserves its place on the list. I've heard a few opinions stating VI is the best, but I've never played it. Terra and Kefka come up regularly in conversation though. |

9,8,7 or 8,9,7
They are all great but 8 and 9 had much more content than 7 so they top it for me. Anything after was linear garbage |

Even though FF6 isn't strictly a PS1 title i'll put in a vote for it - to me it's everything a FF game should be. If I was in charge at Square Enix I'd make everyone who is going to be working on a new FF game play FF6 to completion before they started.
If we're just talking about the actual PS1 games I would say FF9 for me. I'm a sucker for the old-school medieval style RPGs The ending was awesome too, much better than FF7's crappy ending.

Easily VII. It's the only one I truly loved. Even though I got so frustrated trying to beat Sephiroth. The others, including this gen FF games, were likeable and enjoyable but still nothing touches VII for me.

Thought IX was amazing when i was younger wasn't overly impressed with VII played it a few times to the same point and got bored may try to play it again at some point. Can only see this poll going one way really as most people seem to love the same game.

FF9 was great, even if they completely ripped off Orko from He-Man.

FF8 is by far the best for me, I actually love it's complexity and think the story is also great. Give me this over the linear rubbish that is FFXIII any day.

I have FF I,II, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII and IX, all of which I still play from time to time along with Grandia and Wild Arms. There's just something about those games that has me returning to them time after time but for me, FFVII is the best out the lot. That's FF gaming at it's best. That's when game play meant something and graphics were second best.

I actually purchase FF7 through the PSN shop on Friday and am attempting to do a 'perfect game' for the first time. Spent 2 hours in battles today so I was able to beat the Midgar Zolom the first time you meet it!

The ending was awesome too, much better than FF7's crappy ending.
