DIVX DVD Player Help
I have just bought a umax yamada dvx-6700 divx dvd player and have burned some of my favorite shows on to a dvd. However when I put the 24 episodes onto a dvd and play them in my divx dvd player each episode appears as many separate parts with a total of 136 files appearing.
What happens is it plays the first 4min 12secs of the 1st episode then skips to the second episode which is file number 7 on the disk for some reason. Anybody have any clue how I can sort this? |

If you require a new divx DVD player, they have a Skyworth divx-compatible one in WH Smith for £49.99. Just to let you know.

Hey, it doesnt matter cos I managed to sort out the problem. It was because I used windows xp's own burning function, now I use roxio all is well.
It did show 136 files on the menu despite only burning only 24. Ah well, nevermind. |

plays every avi / mpeg / mp3 file i have with no skippage or anything the tray looks a bit cheap because its made of plastic but apart from that i would recommend that 100% and it has 5.1 surround sound ports at the back as well as a karoke mic port (with a special karoke mode) Last edited by Yorkieonline : 12-12-2004 at 10:14. I've just got one of these Skyworths from WHSmith and they are fantastic. So easy to put 4 or 5 movies onto a DVD and play them from there and no messing with extracting and burning a VCD.
An excellent buy and a snip now at £30! |

An excellent buy and a snip now at £30! Does it have RGB/S-Video on the scart, if it has scart, or is it composite only? If it does not have RGB/S-Video or if does not have scart, does it have an S-Video out socket? What does it have in the way of digital audio out - coaxal or optical? Is it region free, or will it require a hack/mod? Does it handle subs, and if so, what format do they need to be in and does it add black borders around the text? Not having RGB/S-Video via scart is no big loss as long as it has an S-Video out socket. At this price this would be worth the buy just for Divx playback, of which I only download a little, so do not want to spend out on another more expensive machine when I have a very good Sony DVD player already. Not having sub support would be no major loss either since I've yet to download anything subbed. |

Skyworth
Yes it does have RGB through its scart. It has the ubiquitous Mediatek chip though (and can like most of its peers stick a little on some DVX and XVID files. Watch out for lack of firmware updates - no one is accepting responsibility for this.
Otherwise, well presented, with good remote control and picture quality. Has all the expected sockets and 5.1. phonos (although no DTS). My player had a slight mains casing hum). Overall there's nothing near it at £30 and if price consciousness is a factor, buy one before they all disappear. |

I bought this player with the intention of plugging in headphones - but didnt realise it was a microphone slot only.. had to buy a headphone amp to plug into it.
Otherwise its a great player for the bedroom - got all the features you could possibly want - not sure it has the spec for a main dvd - but for a 2nd dvd player to play divx its a total steal. My friend who works at WHSmiths has informed me that stock is running low and they will soon be putting the price upto £50 - as they are pure loss-leaders.. at that price how can they make money on them. They're of course hoping that people would buy some dvds along with the player.. but who needs to when you can 'backup' dvds in divx format!!! |

All you need is a good burning software like nero - and simply burn the avi or mpeg files as a data cd or dvd. Then the menu appears in the dvd player and you select the film you want.. very easy.
