TV displaying wrong/bad colours

Hi,

I've had an LG 42PQ6000 42-inch Widescreen Plasma TV for about just over 2 years and am getting issues with the display as it's grainy and shows up pinks and blues where off-whites should be.

I have a Foxsat HD box and an Xbox 360, both connected with HDMI. I originally had these gold plated HDMI cables: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000H8TQL4

Which I then replaced with these Platinum in the hope that it would fix the problem (which it didn't): http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002X6CM78

I've taken some photographs of the display:

Blues around cheeks & nose: http://oi48.tinypic.com/19wpb6.jpg

Pinks around white tooth: http://oi50.tinypic.com/34tbq6q.jpg

Pinks and grainy visible in sky: http://oi50.tinypic.com/1jrno6.jpg

I'm thinking of just getting a new TV but wanted to see if anyone else had experienced the same. I'd hate to buy a new TV to find I still have the problem.

I'd massively appreciate some advice.

Thanks in advance,

Brian.

It wouldn't, there's no point (and no performance difference) to those leads.

It's simply that your TV is faulty, and probably requires the PDP (Plasma Display Panel) replacing.

However, LG did have a problem with premature failure, and produced a revised PCB to compensate for the aging of the PDP.

Thanks, I'm guessing it's outside warranty as I didn't opt for the extended one and usually they only guarantee things like this for a year.

Is it the kind of thing a local TV repairman could do or would it have to go back to LG?

Or if it's going to be costly, shall I just ditch it and get a new one?!

Since it's a recognised inherent fault, contact the manufacturer and they may come to a favourable arrangement.

Replacing the PDP is likely to cost more than the TV did originally - but it may be worth contacting LG, as if it's one of the affected TV's they 'may' do a free repair/modification for it.

Manufacturers guarantees again IN ADDITION to your legal rights. 2 years under EU rules. UK sale of goods act gives you 6 years protection (not guarantee).

But still no guarantee of a free repair.

Nigel Goodwin is making the most sensible suggestion - contact LG and see what they say, particularly if it is a known problem.

They may offer to provide the parts free of charge, leaving you with just the labour charge.
