Galaxy S2 (4.3" screen) fits fine in front jeans pockets. not tried with any others!

I guess I also wear tighter jeans than you. I was chatting with friends (male and female) and there is a general feeling that the latest phones are getting too large if you aren't wearing a jacket or carrying a handbag.

I'm amazed there is so little choice if you want a high performance phone (great screen resolution, good camera, fast processor, latest OS version, lots of memory, etc) but don't want a mini-tablet.

My wife is replacing her HTC Legend soon, this was the flagship phone of 2010 and there is no high-end phone that isn't significantly larger.

Look at the samsung galaxy s advance or the motorola atrix or the Huawei Honor. They are all 4 inch screens. So in-between the desire s and one s.

Please apple don't copy these brick phones, the current iPhone is the ideal size.”

Have you actually been in a shop and compared it against your own iphone4 like i have?

The screen is much bigger, but the actual size of the phone is only mm larger. Just look at all that wasted space around the edge of your screen.

The current iPhones form factor is ideal, maybe reduce the black edges to the iPhones screen giving maybe 1" of extra screen but keeping the actual phones size the same as is it right now.”

Oh thats what samsung have done though. There is a massive edge around the screen on an iphone, which is used by the larger samsung screen. The S3 is hardly any bigger in your pocket than your/my iphone4.

But it can make a huge difference those few mm - I can happily put an iPhone 4 in my pocket but not an S3.

LOL No! Just don't like anything too bulky in my pocket all the time - got a 3.5" screen on my Vivacity and goes in my pocket fine and my old 3.8" Lumia 800 was just about ok as well.

For your information, I got my wife a HTC one s this morning. Firstly because her old HTC legend dying, and secondly so I can play with it. So far it is looking pretty good, but she hasn't let me try carrying it around in my jeans yet.

My phone has a 4.3inch screen and runs on Android ICS. I couldn't go back to a 3.5inch screen now it's just too small. OP You get so used to a bigger screen that when attempting to use a phone with a smaller screen you really notice the difference.

Oh and it fits very nicely in my pocket

As for the jeans, dude they don't need to be that tight or you will end up with a bulge that won't be from anything in your pocket

There are loads of high end smaller phones.
I'm really not quite sure what you are all defining as high end.

Too big, too small. That is really a personal thing with pros and cons both ways.
It just happens that people with smaller phones want to use them in quite different ways or even less.

Mine is 3.5" and I cant yet justify making it bigger or faster.
The lifestyle and needs thing feels more apt for small cheap phones. I read it as being 'I'm a low user' or 'I don't need the actual smartphone features too often'.

1) What high end phones have a <4" screen? By high end, I mean dual core processor, 1GB RAM, min 8M camera with HD video, good build quality
2) I'd say I do use "actual smartphone features" a lot, but I DON'T use it as a tablet. I do email on it, use a fair amount of apps (satnav, train times, facebook, etc) and some surfing (mostly news and forums). I don't try to watch TV/movies on a phone.

This is true. Once I got over the shit its big shock when viewing the Note for the first time, anything smaller now seems toy like.
